Hi all I'm sure that this is a topic that was discussed before but I would like to ask...

What tyres would you suggest to have optimal control without sacrificing to much control and or rolling resistance on a varitey of differant surfaces.

I tried some differant tyres but it's a bit expensive to change tubeless tyres to try out something new everytime.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Thanks used maxxis Larsen TT before and found if you push hard into corners it "washes" and lost the front a couple of times.

Running Crossmark on the back and Specilised Captain in front at the moment.

Be sure to try out mono-rail in future

Thanks

Iv got Crossmarks (back wheel) and Specialized Captin (front wheel) on my training wheels. a good all round combo but a little slow. Got Kenda Small Block8 (back wheel) and Racing Ralph (front wheel) on my racing wheels. very fast good cornering but not good for very steap wet climbing wheelz2009-06-07 23:10:52

There is no simple answer but have a look at Swalbes three tire system.  It will give you a good idea what to look for. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I been happy with these for dry and not to loose conditions

Front - Mountain king

Rear - Race king

For looser/wetter conditions I would replace the rear Race king with another Mountin king.  The SB8 is another nice dry rear tire but I don?t like it on the front.

I have used Maxxis Crossmarks for the past year, they have been very good, but not ideal for muddy conditions.

I have now put on the Continental heavily punted config of Front -Mountain King (good for mud/rocks) and Rear - Raceking (good for soft sand, soft on hardpack, pretty much like the Crossmarks).

That said the front tyre does not handle soft on hardpack, very unstable on such terrain and results in the front slipping out a lot.

Right now I would recommend Crossmarks all round.

GEAX is good.  they are dual directional and you can select from race through to freeride on their treads.  No problems there.  Also come in white and white wall for more bling.

Strongly agree with Ox_Wagon, have been running the same config on my MTB with great results. Switched my Race King at the back for a Mountain King after stage 1 of the Epic, was not getting great traction in very loose sand, the Mountain King worked much better and I kept that setup for the rest of Epic. In general, mountain king front and race king rear (both 2.2) has worked great for me.

Conti for performance and Maxxis for durability!

I've tried Mountain Kings and they rock! But compound bit soft so wears quickly. On Crossmarks at present and bit different to Conti but getting use to it. Running TT larsons on front wheel. What I've learned is tyre pressure is quite essential. So play around before making decisions on perfect fit - my recommendation

kenda karma at the back... low volume. schwalbe racing ralph front. just say a prayer for the karma everytime you go out on a rockey ride then everything should be fine.

Iv got Schwalbe Racing Ralphs front and back, no problems so far!Thumbs%20Up

Maybe put a Nobbly Nic on the front for extra grip if you want......

anybody use the scott cougars. I run them on mine and find they work really well in mud and rock and the cornering is so much better than the crossmarks.

I had a tioga yellow dragon in front and that gripped like anything in all terrain..pity they are so heavy.
