Remember last year when Campag launched the limited edition "Red" levers at a couple of thousand bucks premium.

Turns put the only difference between those levers and the regular ones were the red painted logos and 50 bucks worth of stiffer G Springs. Amazing the price some are prepared to pay just to ride what the pros ride.

Edman' date=' now check which parts can be replaced with Ti ones and if the bearings can be replaced with ceramic ones.[/quote']

Don't forget to use a wax based lubricant to prevent dust from accumilating inside the mechanism  so that you don't have to strip it again just to clean itWink

The weather's improved to the point where I could venture outside to strip the right lever. Aside from levers, housing and springs, here are the differences between left and right levers.

The two parts stamped with a 10 are what separates 9 speed from 10 speed.

Edman, JB. Who are the agents for campag? Or can you order the spares from your LBS at a premium? I too would like to take a part my Levers, they have served me well, but as JB ponts out they have nearly lost their "click"

The agent is J&J in Pretoria. However, you'll have to get it from your bike shop. Even with a 200% mark-up you should pay no more than R50 or so for the two springs.

Tip: If your click slowly disappeared, you only need the springs. If the click suddenly disappeared, you'll need the spring carrier as well since its post has broken off. That too is cheap cheap.

Do it.

Is it really hard to get the brake lever out on a shimano set? I have one that has some pretty bad marking on it that I want to get redone.

Shimano wears out...

CAMPAG wears in...

Heard that somewhere

Haha, cant say if thats the case but these are still in perfect mechanical condition. The only thing is that they levers have some of the anodized colour coming off. What I want to do is get them prepped and possibly resprayed. Im just a little nervous about stripping them after having seen how many little bits were lurking in those campys!

Rocket-Boy,

To be honest I don't think spaying them is the way to go...

I could be wrong - I ride that Italian brand and don't have the problem. Maybe just replace the lever.

Can you replace the leavers seperately?

I'm not sure if this is possible. I never really looked closely at my Shimano levers when I road them, but I do remember that most of the shifting mechanism was built into the lever, rather than into the housing - this might make things a bit fiddly.

If you look at the Ultegra parts list you can see that it's possible to remove the whole lever assembly from the housing. Once you've got that off you could explore to see how easy it might be to take it apart.

Ok - the part numbers are

(Right hand lever - Record)

G-Springs : EC-RE209 (need two of these)

Spring Carriers : EC-RE111

Just placed my order

Thanks for this thread - I feel inspired to fiddle with my ergo levers
