You cannot compare the two. the only thing in common is the fact that you use a bicycle.

It's two completely diferent diceplins. I get bored out of my mind on a road bike' date=' but let me ride that same road on a fixie , and it's all cheese.

If I had to do the same section of road on my mtb, "CRAP!". You know what I mean. So let's stop trying to see who is the greatest, and respect each other for the disepline whe enjoy. I wish I can Climb like a roadie, DH like a madman. And do the technical stuff like a true MTB CHAMP...

ask the hubber who dissed mtb on this thread about respect. he has so much respect that he once left a female hubber to fend for herself in the minedumps.

In our group rides the roadies show up ready to work on their fitness (probably why I cant keep up on the hills), whereas in the mounties group there are some okes just wanting to get out, some doing it for the first time (well thats what they say eveytime) and some okes training for the next race.  Not worse, not better, just very different.  Like cbrunsdon said more for less, very easy to go out and enjoy yourself.  To me roading always seeming more serious.

I do both and feel you can have fun on a MB no matter your level of fitness. It is always entertaining to try and ride stuff you are not sure of and do your best to get over the obstacles even when not so fit.

Road riding only gets fun when you are fit and feel that good feeling when you can stand on a hill and kick over the crest and fly off onto the flats. Road riding is dreadful when you are unfit but it sure is good at getting you fit and strong. Lots of top MB's spend hours on the road for that reason

If mtb was just as easy/easier than road we would have 53/39 -11/23 on our mountain bikes..

That's waywhy road bikes have full suspension to knobbly tyres to cope with the flat road surface...ConfusedConfusedConfused

I wish I can Climb like a roadieCHAMP...

So if I read between the lines, I would assume that you suggest some road champs are better climbers than some MTB champs ?

Ill give my take on it after my first MTB ride.

All I can say at this stage is that on the road it can be pretty easy if you just suck wheel, but that also depends on the group you are riding with. If you are prepared to do your bit it is mega tough.

Arent all girls on bikes wearing pink(or any other colours for thast matter) hot?

Oops no - just remembered one I saw recently at Fountains, I think she prob weighed more than Slave and me combined. That wasnt too hot, but her tyres were red hot when we passed her - not too sure why?

Wanna come try that MTB out with us on Saturday? Longish ride (probably about 4-5 hours) but nothing hectically technical.

Brackendowns (Sharondale nursery) out to the cellphone tower in Walkerville and then over Wattle climb through Drumblade and back .....
