so glad you are impressed with my graphic design, thank you.

What do you do when going around a corner and there is another cyclist approaching with speed, clever guy?

Tankman' date=' why do you swerve out to the right? Let the idiot do it to his/her left. It is known on MTB trails that you always keep left and you avoid oncoming traffic by swerving left.[/quote']

That is my whole point exactly.  I should not be the one swerving out, the idot should! <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><?: PREFIX = O />

I dont like playing chicken either, the first couple of seconds approaching an indecisive idiot is nerve wrecking, who goes left right left right left right ....

JUST GET ON THE OTHER SIDE YOU IDIOT!!!!!!

yes & you clearly did not read my blanked out message (narrow cycling spaces in the cape)I can do that type of thing on my route & there is still space even for two opposite cyclists' date='

oh & look you drew me some pictures. How kind/clever or whatever of you!!, did you study graphic design perhaps ?

im done with this discussion. Ive actually got some work to do
[/quote'] YOU ASKED FOR IT!  Remember your first post?  You asked why people are so upset, they then explained and the next thing you run off all hurt to go and do some "work".

...and if that little graphic is the work of a graphic designer he needs to go and get his money back from wherever he studied!!!  Some people just need pics to get the pictureWink

Just keep cycling on the left hand side

and avoid all of this.

If you are going to be "taken out" rather not see it comming,

your body will be more relaxed and therfore have less injuries

if that at ll possible.

Its like drunk drivers are seldom injured in an accident , they are to relaxed.

Friend of mine was taken out by a cyclists 5o'clock in the morning riding on the wrong side of the road.  He had the audacity to tell my friend it was his fault because he did not make way for him. Needless to say my friend landed in hospital.

hurt ?? far from it..... Im trying in the most constructive way possible to explain why i dont ride on the left of the road as one should & is meant to.

My personal experiences have been pleasant over the years ive been riding & other cyclists have always greeted me without snyde remarks. I also have to admit i do cross over if it does become narrow & dangerous to oncoming traffic ie: cars or cyclists but my route is generally pretty wide hence the reason i do what i do because im able to do it. I will also do it only if there is sufficient space to do it ie: pedestrians or for that matter other cyclists included in the lane im in.

Willehond: No it is not a new thing here in SA of riding on the opposite side. Generally most people abide by it. I guess the reason i do it is because i have a phobia of being hit from behind. I wanna see whats gonna hit me if it does

It seems to be a perception of being safer to ride the wrong side of the road, I've had a couple instances of some twit cycling the wrong way.

Guess how many experiences I've had with been hit from behind. Just one, and that was another cyclist on singletrack.

I'm not sure what "constructive" means in consultant speak, but generally it doesn't "this is my viewpoint and stuff all of you that disagree".

okay tell you what, to stop all of this nonsense that ive created here !!

Ill start riding on the right side of the road & stop being such an idiot & give that a try for a change. Ive never come across any of the dangerous scenarious you guys mention in all the time ive cycled but let me give the correct way of riding a go

Riding on the wrong side of the road is a hugely dangerous practice, and one which irritates me hugely when I am cycling on the right of the road and have to make way for the idiot offender as per Tankman's pictorial depiction of the pinnacle of stupidity on wheels.

In the areas in which I ride, I notice that the main offenders are the newspaper delivery guys, who hug the wrong side of the road at dawn without lights or helmets.

Good idea BumpNgrind.  The way I see it, it doesn't matter on what side of the road we cycle, cycling is a dangerous sport but let's try and make it safer by sticking to the rules.

Never mind all that cr@p, and no, i didn't read the hole thread, so dunno if this was mentioned, but I think you need to ride your pedal cycle on the correct side of the road, as it is covered under the road traffic act... So don't worry about all the other garbage, just try and be a law abiding citizen.

Well done B&G for holding your quirky habits up for Hub scrutiny.  You were getting away with a sympathetic hearing for quite a while there. You had a strong reaon to switch but seems like ur coming back over now - it's ur choice.

I see guys on the wrong side on part of the Lido route and Atlas Rd. They're ambling along on straight handlebar bikes so there's plenty of time to sort out who goes where.  If you're head down serious training on the wrong side then it would be a pain.

This is to a man being scared of doing things the right way, you brought us tons of entertaining but pointless threads on the hub. One being a lesson to us all, never ride a bike on the wrong side of the road. Reason one: death, two: coffin, three: endless counting of soil particles and facing decomposition.
