He who has the most fun wins and at the moment looks like LA is havong a ball. AC is clearly the strongest rider on the Tour, no one else in his class, but it seems he is still a little prone to tactical errors such as missing the split in the peleton when HR tore the peleton apart in the cross winds and when he went on the attack the other day. I am no LA fan but to say or infer that he is hopeless is crazy. He has outridden most of the best cyclists in the world on this Tour. Where is Sastre, Evans and others?

for my money the real gutsy ride has been by Wiggens. All the big boys out to nail him and he just does his thing and barely changes expression.

i am a bit tired of ALL the Astana hype.

Is he crying and wiping the snot from his nose ?  LOL

Yes pansy he is.... maybe....but I would have loved to see your weatherbeaten Free State face, if you could ever reach the same heights and do what he did. Coming back and ripping the world's cycling fans apart and putting them in TWO camps again...... wait for Ventoux tomorrow to see him unleashed...... ever since he GAVE Ventoux to the doper Pantani he wanted to win there...... watch him tomorrow...... with his new team next year he will have no alliance to Bryuneel or Contador.

What Alberto should do is collect yellow on Sunday and then collectively tell Astana' date=' Bruyneel et al to f*ck off!!! he needs to find a team that is supportive unconditionally and not condescending of his talents.

Lance is a winner in this whichever way you look at it as the master political animal that he is!! Had he won the tour it would have been "how great I am" and if it didn't come to pass it now is "what a humble and hardworking team mate I am". Lost all respect that I had for this ****!! Long live Filippo Simeoni!!!

Yes, as I said elsewhere, fortunately we all have differant opinions, mine is similar to Holy's - Alberto has been made to fend for himself.

There is no doubt in my mind.

Its not just about fending off attacks on the slopes, thats a given for any team, rather its about harmony and cohesion, its about management supporting you as the "Maillot Jaune" in the media, its about management  praising your decisions (right or wrong) and moving quickly to dispell rumors, theres lots of other instances, Contador has risen above these issues and he has won my respect for it.

that's where i was going with this. contador has had to try win in spite of his own team, and not because of them.

I'm sorry, but now you are talking nonsence. Contador has had the benefit of the Astana team and this is evident from the lack of competition that the other teams have provided via support to their contenders. Astana is the best team at the tour and under Bruneel have won a hell of a lot more TDF's than any other teams over the last 10 years.

Contador is a great rider and will be a deserved winner, no doubt, however the slander heaped on Armstrong on this forum by week-end warriors is mind blowing. FFS's he's won the greatest bike race 7 times, what more do you want him to do? You don't have to like him but at least give him the respect he's earned. Just saying.

Its amazing how experienced athletes can continually embarrass themselves in public just because they don?t like someone and are so blinded by their obessive hatred.

Holy - are we watching the same tour - in mine Astana have been pacing Armstrong AND Contador for miles and miles and miles and miles. Poppy/Poulinho and to a lesser extant Zubeldia (hell - even Leipheimer and Kloden did some pacing on the high mountains) have been forcing the pace on most of the climbs and a fair amount of the flats when FDJ refused to pace and the escapees were gaining ground on Armstrong/Contador.

You can argue as to who exactly the team was working for but there was exactly the same protected status given to both Contador and Armstrong.

I actually think it was completely fair - no clear leader until one of them (Contador) created a sizable lead. In my opinion Armstrongs "wait until Contador has gapped most of his competitors then try and jump across the gap alone" tactic has shown Contador the respect he deserves as leader on GC.

Love this thread but can't understand where all the emotion is coming from.

Astana - great team with options early on as to who can do it for them, now looks like Contador - good for them.  The team looks big enough and strong enough to have a couple of divisions and still succeed.

Lance - fantastic rider, but now looks to be racing out of his time.

Unfair / pointless to compare Lance vs Contador now; or Lance at his best vs Contador now.

BigH could be right too (no, look, really - it could happen), the fat lady aint singing yet (or maybe in the mountains she yodels), & tomorrow's a big day.

It's the weekend, just enjoy the TDF and appreciate what these riders have put their bodies through. They all look skinny and ill after 3 weeks of racing.

Innocent till proven guilty. If someone gets caught doping, they should get a lifetime ban, enough said.
