Congratulations to Rynard and Charl on their great ride at the Transalp. The team finished 70th overall and 50th in their category.

The photo below was taken at 2200m high on day 4, just before heading down to some warmer pastures.

Rynard and Charl were riding the Skin hardtails.

Summer kit? Looks freezing!

Yeah, it was freezing. Eventhough it is summer in Europe. The guys started in the valley where it was warmer and climbed to the top. They had to cover up for the downhill section though.

Well done, serious respect! Been reading another SA rider's blog, crazy race. Like 4 x 3000m+ climbing days in a row, over just 80km...

Long term dream to go do it.

I was at G yesterday when i overheard Rynard calling him t llet him know they are back. G kind of gave me an idea of how difficlult this event is. Congrats to the commie boys for such a grueling race, from what i heard "one can suffer quite seriously & its quite a battle", on the other hand though, how rewarding

Congrats. Well done' date=' on the list of races we want to do...would anyone recommend it?[/quote']

Just for the views and to experience the Euro way of life, I would say it's worth it.

But you need to be physically prepared for some serious climbing.

No I've not done it, scared of all that climbing.

Did it in 2007 - los of climbing but the average stage at least 1,5 hours shorter than a Epic stage - much more enjoyable and also cheaper than Epic( except for travel costs ) Fantastic experience

How "technical" were the trails, just wondering if there is much technical type single track or is it mostly jeep track type of trail?

I went last year, 2008, did not finish....... EmbarrassedCry.

When they say there is alot of climbing that is an understatment!!!!! There is a Sh!t load of climbing. The technical stuff was not so bad, it's the pushing that got to me, Uphill. We had a stage of 124km, 1hr 30 min into the stage we had done 7km!!!!!!! Dead

Will compare in to Epic next year..... Big%20smile
