Hey guys

So my LOOK KG 96 is 95% complete! I still need to get a Dura Ace 7400 series headset and rear hub. Im using some 600 parts at moment so the LOOK can be enjoyed. I have the Dura Ace levers which aren't on the bike at the moment but will be on shortly after I refurb a Cinelli stem I want still use on the LOOK.

So here is a picture of the LOOK at the moment.

Good evening all.

I'm restoring an old pinarello which I found in limpopo at one of my customers farms. She is in appalling condition but still has enough flare to justify the financial Input.

What I am hoping for is a contact of somebody in JHB who can re-chrome the chain stays, seat stays and fork.

I'm not sure which model this bike is or when it was produced. The fork and the frame are stamped with the same serial number and I've tried contacting pinarello but I'm Still to receive a reply.

Ai am unable to upload pics but will do as soon as I get a gap.

Any info would be awesome.

Thank you

Somewhere on the hub comment made regarding excellent work done by http://www.africanelectro.co.za/about.htm

Thanks for the lead. I spoke to a Zane but he was very vague and gave me a ball park of R1800 just for the chain and seat stays.

I have had good work done at Sheffield Electroplating

Phone: 011 334 1102

Fax: 011 334 2943

Physical Address:

3 Rosettenville Rd, City & Suburban, Johannesburg, 2001

I then contacted Sheffield and Marion quoted a ball park of R1300 for the whole frame and fork ex VAT.

I'm going to see both tomorrow afternoon to get official quotation.

Thanks for your help. I'm really looking forward to get her sorted by the Freedom ride next month.

Look Ma! No Look pedals? They were the "in thing" at the same time when these frames were Tour de France winners...

Nice bike! Enjoy.

Just thought of something! Contact Annette from Cycledelic in Rynfield Benoni 0835541810. She could give you a name of a chap who had 2 Colnago's chromed a few weeks ago. I saw the work it was extremely well done (it is difficult to get chrome to stick on to intricate lug work and hence electroplating guys charge a fortune to do small jobs). Tell her Steve sends regards.

Thank you for the help Steve. I've contacted Annette and she in turn put me on too the colnago owner. He used African electroplating(as you originally suggested).

No problem, it was a mere coincidence.

The work was brilliant but I known it cost a packet. +-R2,000 if my memory serves me correct but it was a complete chrome of the frame fork and handlebars.

In my personal experience you never recover the cost of respraying or chroming a frame irrespective of frame. A cheap R500 frame resprayed with new decals could cost you up to R2,000 and you would battle to resell at R2,500.

A rare more expensive frame is similar but you have a greater chance of making some money with more expensive frames.

The way I look at it is you have to discount the price by the enjoyment you get out of the bike.

Older bikes are undervalued in SA at present.

Let us know how the bike comes out as I have a frame which I may want to have chromed.
