Me neither, but it seems a few marques tried the configuration before GT made it their own!!!

It makes sense in terms if added stiffness, but I suppose there is a weight penalty for that.

Got offered this this morning, COPPI aero steel track frame, Gimondi cranks, Campag high flange hubs.

All this for R4k

I would have taken it, except it's not the original fork  , loses a lot of value that way and I don't know if I'll ever find a real fork.

Anyone else interested????

Nice, but too modern for me. Agree about loss of value due to mismatch of frame fork

Apparently it's an early 80s frame, though difficult to find anything in my short goggle search

I'm weary to sell something as fact when it is based simply on my own basic knowledge, but I would put money on it that, that frame is from the 90's and not "early" 80's.

Again, that doesn't necessarily  take anything away from the bike or the asking  price.

You could be right!

I haven't seen the bike 'in the flesh', only the photo you've seen. When I spoke to the owner, she wasn't too sure if was ali or steel. The steel ones could certainly be mid 80s, they did exist, so a goggle search indicates. But if it's ali, then it's likely to be 90s.

But, either way, I decided against it. The carbon fork suggests that if it's an 80s, it's missing the original fork. (they had steel forks). And if it's the original fork, as the owner seems to think, then it's 90s.

So you might well be correct.

Pure bike porn! That Somec has been perfectly built up and ticks all the boxes. Ideal groupset and wheels all brought together with perfect choice of bar tape and cable housing. Well done, that is a master piece. Picasso would be proud.

Strictly, from an artistic perspective, not much goes with the original pink/purple decals on those (fantastic) Shamals, but on this Somec they are a PERFECT match! Great bike, great build.

This thread motivated me to get and build a Eroica bike.

Have an option on a Colnago Export with Gippieme parts .

Emptying the piggy bank tonight

If you haven't done this years one, make sure you get your body to next years one. It is a must do. It should be somewhere in May.

Edit: Check out the E-bay link above if you have a really big piggy bank. Nearly R200 000 for a Colnago Arabesque.

My find .

1982/83 Colnago Export with mostly Gippieme parts .

Still on its way to me when I will do a proper assessment

Very nice!

Here is a link to Ray Bobbins site and an earlier 80's catalogue which has a nice blue Export.

I have a 86/88 Super and they great bikes to ride. Very stable and if it fits, you will love the comfort of the frame.

The Colnago decals were substandard with flaking lettering but there are lots of very good replicas available in Europe.

Enjoy the restoration!

P.S. hope to see the bike at next year's Eroica(?)
