New to the passion for steel. Love the looks of this Eddy Merckx 'Corsa', but never cycled in the days these were the latest toyson the road. Found it at my LBS on Saturday and couldnt resist the temptation. Took it for a ride this morning with the guys and haven't even been dropped once. Gears shift super smooth, it flies.

According to my www research it is not old, about '95? Not sure if that can be right. It has full Dura Ace. Hubs are also Dura Ace but rims are Campy. Crank is Mavic. Can anyone tell me more? Sorry for the bad quality picture

Bingo. Thats a 1989 Merckx in Domex team colours. The only difference between the Corsa and Corsa Extra is the tubing, Columbus SL and SLX respectively. This is a really crappy picture that I found but your frame is second from the left:

And from the 1989 catalog:

Some really jaw dropping bikes on this thread.

Have had a tab open on this page for a regular visit.

That CBT Italia is pure porn. I like your project. Patina has its place; but I will always favour a solid restoration. You've done a top job

The EM is also lovely. Good components; especially like the look of that crank. I know that starfish is not everybody's cuppa, but I think its a looker and so recognizable. Really not that surprised that she feels as good as you describe. Nice size frame.

VELO & Fausto (COppi)

Thanks for your feedback. I can't stop looking at the EM. It's like I have just got myself something really special. But one couldn't even get a decent helmet nowadays for that money.

Velo, thanks for the details and the brochure. I was wondering about the colours and which team is was a replica of. The letter next to the serial number is an E. On the left hand side '2 C M' is stamped in. So I suppose it is 1995, a 62 size ?

Wished it was a little older, but then the components wouldn't match, I suppose.

Cheers again.

I have some advice to ask. I recently picked up an old track frame, this thing is so clean  no cable guides, no hanger, no brake mounts, no water bottle mounts. thing is I can't figure out what make it is, there are no decals and no impressions any where on the bike (most of the time the brand is stamped at the top of the seat stays).

So I am keen to brand it very subtly as a Colnago with some World Champ pinstripes.. Is it pompous to brand something a Colnago if it isn't one? Will it be really lame? What would style man say? It's going to be a purist fixie i.e. no breaks, 25cm in length handle bars. bellow is a pic of the frame and what I am thinking as a respray.

Why don't you keep the colour scheme but change "Colnago" to "Sparticus" or something like that.

What did you pay for it if you dont mind me asking?

Don't you just love ignorant LBS's. Wish there were more of them around.

True. But it is in good hands now. Interesting to see these prices on ebay, though most of them are Corsa Extra frames. Is there a big difference in value? I see that the cable on the Extra is routed through the frame. That's beautiful. Also both chain stays seem to be chromed instead of just the drive train side. The brackets on the top tube of my Corsa are partly rusted, not so nice.

Bliss: Corsa with my 2009 AXM.

Thanks HeartCoppi. It is been a nice project, really enjoying it. Have moved forward slightly, but still waiting for my BB to arrive. I am going to go with Velo's recommendation and put on some Veloflex Master pave tires on. I know it is not the aimbut surpringly enough, I should end up with a sub 10Kgs bike. probably around 9.8kg. Not bad for an old steel bike. ;)
