Western Cape Winter 24h Race/Ride

It would be great to have Western Cape Winter 24h Race/Ride.

 

 

 

The 24h of Wiesenhoff in January is great and Meurant and the Dirtopia boys/girls put on a really good show, but a year is a long time to wait for the next race/ride.

 

 

 

We used to have the 24h of Malmesbury ... but that is sadly off the calendar.

 

 

 

Anyone else feel the same as me?

The reason the Malmesbury event was taken off the calendar was from lack of support. While I am all for another 24hr event, it's no good if only a handful of hardcore riders rock up. We need the mass participation to make it worth while.

 

Maybe hosting a 24hr event along with the 9-5 could work?

It could possibly also be made part of the Dirtopia festival.

 

I think a dedicated winter event is just too much risk for the organisers as doing a 24-hour in the rain is quite bleak!

They should consider making the WINE2WHALES or something similar like that an overnight event. It's close to home, missus can drop you off on the Saturday i Stellenbosch and then meet you Sunday in Hermanus. No need for B&B, taking leave etc.

in 1998/99 we had the george 24HR race. It was awesome

smack in the middle of winter next to the dam with 6km of the 9km lap being singletrack. remeber we used about 8km of candy tape to mark the course

Well, ig you look at the mud at the 9-5 event and then again at the weekends MTB Challenge, it is quite risky, think maybe a bit to much organizing to do and if it rains, nobody pitch.

I also like the idea of 24 hrs at Dirtopia.

Stellenbosch winter mud is not a great 24hr idea though. Not only for the bikes but also for the trail.

I agree....A 9-5 would work awesome with 24h event. I would def enter if they have such an event
