Hi Wayne

You don't mention what you're upgrading from? There are guys on here who'll be more knowledgeable than I am but I can tell you that Sora is Shimano's entry level, Tiagra is slightly better but if you can afford it then go for 105 and I'm sure everyone will agree with me there.

Good luck.

Sora is Shimmies entry level groupset.. 8 speed

Tiagra is the next best... 9 speed

105 is middle of the range... 10 speed.

Cannot believe I am going to say this, but you need nothing more. Shimmy is a good groupset. Although I prefer Campy, their are peple who swear by the Shimmy groupsets.

Also have a look at the SRAM Rival groupset. There are Rival groupsets being advertised for R4800, and as we all know SRAM won the TDF this year.

My $ 2.00 ( Afghan $ )

Short answer.

All crap.  Just the sticker that is different.

No go out and get some SRAM or CAMPY!  That way you will be classified as a cyclist and not a fun-rider.  Clap

Campy is for the wanna bee's. all bling, little pling..

Typically cyclists who still think that the best bikes are still made in Italy.

Shimano is not the best selling brand for nothing, but don't but the cheaper groupsets, go for a Ultegra at least.

105 is definitely not cheap or inferior quality,

most cyclist with shimano has 105's and their not much if any difference in quality between 105 and ultegra
