Sorry to hear about it. Happened to my fiance's colleague as well. Reckon it's guys staying in the complex. When you have the time, walk past all the units to see if you can identify any of your stuff...

New method of clening out complexes: Rent a unit and move in with nothing, fill the rooms with all your neighbours goods get furniture truck and move out a month or two later nobody suspects their neighbour to b involved, guards some innocent others happy for the R1000-00 backhand to be a lookout.

Insurance is in order and I'm the one paying for it so I do not feel guilty that it is mostly my stuff that needs to be replaced.

And seeing that they took all my camera equipment' date=' I'm pondering if I should stick with Canon or change to Nikon. Okay, let the discussion begin.[/quote']

Sorry to hear Mampara! They probably followed some other car into the complex. Then did there business and waved at the guard as they went out. The police in our area sends out weekly emails on what to look out for and any crimes that have taken place in our sector. They also warned about the crooks following into the complexes. Seems to be the current Modus Operandi. All security is directed outwards and nothing inwards.

Btw, go for Nikon. I got a D60 and incredibly happy with it.

That's exactly what happened at my mates complex in Fourways. The guys spent about a month stealing what they cold then simply moved out.

Sorry to hear parra. I also become a statistic while moving into my new flat also in a complex. Also have double electric fence on. No guard at the gate - resident must open the gate via intercom for visitors. Luckily my insurance covered me and that only being insured by them for 6 days Thumbs%20Up

Hmm, theft is a way of life today, we just have to make sure we take the required precautions, insure, and hope for the best.

On tuesday my broker visited to renew our insurance for next year and reading through the lists here is what has to be done to maintain my present status (only a 8% increase) for next year - this is for my commercial policy as well as my private policy as its all interlinked.

By the way, I have never had a break in at eother my private or commercial property -

1)All doors have to be secured via an extra lock with a key, fitted on a 90 degree plane to the existing locks.

2)All sliding doors have to be secured by an expandable gate.

3)All windows, (including louvres and non-opening windows) have to be burglar proofed.

4)An alarm must be installed, and linked to a response agency.

5)The alarm must be activated EVERY time you leave the premesis - so even if you just pop over to see the neighbour you have to activate the alarm.

6)Outside doors have to be of solid construction, no "stable door" which opens independantly of another half is allowed and doors can not be of "hollow" construction.

7)Every opening door must have an electronic sensor covering it.

8)Out buildings must be alarmed and the alarm activated even when you are at the property, but not in the outbuilding.

Now, really, I understand the need for security, but I get the feeling the insurance companies are just making as many rules as possible to enable them to avoid paying claims due to non-compliance.

Very sh*tty....Angry

But you can now upgrade to Nikon and Suunto.Wink

By the way, I heard that Bushnell have taken over the Suunto agency in SA. Maybe a bit more marketing will be done.

Does anyone know of any good way to do an off suite back up? I have 3 drives that I regularly backup and hide all over the place but it is a mission.

They took your X-box? Silly buggers. At least you can hope it's

one of the 40% that will red ring on them!!!LOL

As for "secure" complexes - they are only as secure as the most

insecure tenant...

Sorry to hear - the fact that someone was inside your house without your permission would be enough to drive me mad.

I've got beams around the outside of my house to prevent (I hope) "them" from getting to the doors/windows, and doing damage. However, when the alarm does go off (for some unknown reason) the armed response say they can't get into the complex (don't have a remote), so what's gonna happen when it's for real??

If they had taken your bike you could have upgraded to a carbon frameBig%20smile

I might actualy would have because you do not get nice Alu frames anymore. A Planet-X with Ultegra 6700 is cheaper then my alu 'dale and 6600.
