Does anyone know where I can get one of these?

My LBS is doing a build on my bike but they dont have any spares and recon they are really hard to get hold of.

I see CRC has them but I dont want to import such a small thing!

Im assuming its a seal of some sort?

its kind of a lockring that supports the crank arm so it wont fall off, they should be able to get from the supplier, kinda wierd that they cant get one,

They are, but you need the plastic doofer to preload the bearing. Weird that your LBS can't get one - phone Coolheat (Shimano agent) and see what they have to say.

I looked the all over Cape Town for 1 a few months ago, eventually found new ones at Crown Cycles for a third of the price of other shops, that had to order(1-2 weeks waiting time).

You also get 2 sizes, you need the smaller 1 for the 6600 cranks.

It's just a pre-load cap, if you can't find 1 & need to fit cranks asap, use the 1 in the pic to do the job.

Once crank bolts have been tightened remove it again & replace it with a plastic MTB bar-end cap for the meantime, nobody will know.Wink

The cap preloads the bearings then the two pinch bolts clamp the crank to the axle and at the same time pinch the cap so it doesn't fall off, so if its missing it means the cranks weren't installed properly in the first place...

That is the problem yes.

It says they are doing a build up.

So then if its missing then somewhere down the line the cap has been pinched for another job, cuz it comes with new cranks...anyway the cap can't be really hard to get hold of cuz they can be ordered from shimano locally, they cost about R80, the only way they are "really hard" to get hold of is if coolheat doesn't have stock,

Then my argument becomes the LBS (if they are selling these cranks to RB) should take a cap off a new bike and order some more...

I think they just doing the re-build, & it is "really hard" dealing with Coolheat, I promise you that.

It's like dealing with the mob, just ask Mr CWC...

I paid R20.00 each(new), Cycle Lab wanted R60.00 for a used 1.

So it pays to shop around...

Oh bugger :(

It was a second hand crank that I bought off the hub and it didnt have the cap when I got it.

I see CRC have them for R32 but its hardly worth buying on its own. I wonder how much the LBS is going to claim the thing costs if they actually manage to get hold of one in the end.

Thanks for the help everyone.
