This is perhaps a very late time to post this. I have started in the A bunch at Bela Bela and was caught by the B bunch just after the highway.

In the last 10 or so km we were a small group of riders together.

A car approached from behind and hooted very discreetly to inform us that he wants to pass. We all moved over to allow the motorist to pass. Just ahead of us rider 1212 was riding in the middle of the lane by himself. He refused to move over.

When the motorist eventually passed him he swore at the motorist.

I think it is a very bad reflection on us as cyclists.

Sounds like the guy in a Telkom outfit 2 years ago at the Telkom Classic who swore at the pre race announcer for speaking in English and not Afrikaans.

Cyclist should realise that in an organised event; where they ride with a number; their information is PUBLIC; which even the motorist this cyclist has offended can trace him/her!

The thread posted abuse of a motorist bele bela is very disconcerting.

Yes i participated in the race but my number was 392 and i was in the B bunch not 1212 which was a short distance race number

The reason i am peeved is because of the bad publicity our cycling club has been getting lately, car crashes hospitlization and so forth.

This was a direct niggle at a club which tries its utmost to do something for cycling and this obvious untruth has done no good for the club or my name

Please can you help us  sort this out as it bears negatively on me and my club

Noit only that but it also has direct legal implications not only for me but also my club all this driver has to hear is that it is a Telkom rider who abused him , an over zelous lawyer and I have to stand in court and prove my innosence ' because some dipsh*t is not sure of his facts

Anton Samajoor, your good friend and webbie has done some "Investigative mining"

Assuming that BeesBlaas (BB ) did the 95km race of course.

My findings are:

Although you were number 392 (which I am sure is correct) Championchip has somehow register you as 1212 on their system. This is strange as as I can determine the 1000 range was allocated for the licenced batches and not the funriders (sorry for the reference).

1000 for elite

1400 for sub vets ext.

It seems that the following numbering convention was loosely followed:

the 1- 299 range is the AL group

the 200- 400 range for the BL group

so your 392 number is very plausible.

Furthermore BB claimed:

"I have started in the A bunch at Bela Bela and was caught by the B bunch just after the highway.

In the last 10 or so km we were a small group of riders together"

So given this I assume that the BL group he is refering to is say the first "break" (you were in the third bunch home in the BL group with a time 2:45:17) which would only then include:

1     267     Jaco Swanepoel     New Horizons Cycling Club      2:39:08

2     223     Quinton Coelho     MTN Microsoft Cycling Team      2:39:09

3     262     Matthew Harris          2:39:09

4     212     Charl Herbst          2:40:22

5     73     Adrian Pelser     MTN Club 100      2:43:03

Given that the AL started at 7:31 and BL 3 minutes later at 7:34 we can extrapolate that BB finished with this "break" his time would be between 2:42 and 2:45.

Here are the names of the AL group in that time range:

78     38     Kurt Geneapril     New Horizons Cycling Club      2:42:09

79     105     Martin Roediger     Midrand Country Cycles      2:42:11

80     111     Brian Wray     Cyclelab Supercycling Club      2:42:12

81     61     Jay Spendley     Cyclelab Supercycling Club      2:42:13

82     137     Riaan Koekemoer          2:42:15

83     101     Liaan Marais          2:43:12

84     65     Bernard Ferriman     Microsoft Club 100      2:43:30

85     122     Jan Lombard          2:43:31

86     VX6WBGW     Riekie Wessels     Boss Logistics Cycling Club      2:43:31

87     160     Johan Visagie     Resbank Cycling      2:43:32

88     117     Deon Van Niekerk     Boss Logistics Cycling Club      2:43:33

89     562     Gerrit Hattingh     Hoedspruit      2:44:16

90     166     Andre Coetser          2:44:17

91     86     Joshua Windt          2:44:39

92     141     Jeffrey Botha     Polokwane Pedallers      2:46:03

Even if he had finished with your group he would have had a time in the range of 2:48:17

The AL group with this time are:

96     83     Talita Botha          2:48:38

97     175     Gregory Livingston     New Image Cyling Club      2:49:12

98     154     Martin De Jager     Liebherr Cycling Club      2:49:19

99     VX3HXPF     Jackson September     Resbank Cycling      2:51:19

100     33     Herman Degener     Standard Bank Cycling Club      2:52:18

Now the real mystery BB gives his name on this forum as

trevor van tonder. But this name is not to be found in any of the Bela Bela results. Also no KZN club has listed in any of the above reults.

So what gives:

Who is BB actually?

Why did CC give you an obviously wrong number on their system?

Did BB misread 212 as 1212?

Can we get some clarity on this?

It appears that the numbers given on the championchip results do not correspond to the number we were given from the organisers. I have checked my number as well and even mine do not correspond to the one I had on my back. The organisers need to tell us who actually corresponded to 1212.

My apologies to Anton Schreuder for reading off the championchip website that 1212 corresponds to his name ... it is indeed not him. Sorry Anton.

My apologies to Charl Herbst if I have implied in any way, that he may be the guilty party. As kk has now pointed out, his number also did not correcpond with CC allocated numbering system. So for all we know it could have been anyone.

Klapperknop 1212 was the 60 km race number the long distance numbers were 1 -999

i rode the whole race with backlash and saddlesore and was dropped by the greater bunch of BL just at the climb between Nylstroom and Bela Bela Eersbewoond road.

The last 10 km you talk about was used by both the 60 and 95 km groups so the number 1212 was most probably a 60 km rider, do not quote me on this , it is merely an assumption i am making.

We at the club try or best to promote safe riding and safe group riding, yes we do ride two abreast but this is for added visibilty and not to p1ss off motorists.

To say i was the person was to put it bluntly very short sighted as it now gives me as well as my club a bad name,  something we did not ask for or deserve

ya, how difficult can it be to stay to the left if you're the only cyclist in a 2km radius... Angry such cyclists should be reported, by motorists or other cyclist.
