My call is is that if you dont want to wear a helmet its your choice. If you crash or whatever and are injured cause of it then again' date=' that is your choice.

I normally would agree with the pro-choice stand. But take yourself as an example: you are a top level elite cyclist and, if you like/chose it or not, you are a cycling rolemodel to other cyclists. Your responsibilities are not just to yourself. Many will learn from you - the good, the bad and the ugly. Also, cycling has become a sport of the masses! Which, sadly, requires more regulations.

P.S.: I also miss the times when i was young and rode without a helmet, swam down glacial white water rivers, explored, riding a motorbike at 9y, making my own explosives (lots!!); miss runing wild, damn the fence, damn the fence!

That's not the point ...

The problem is when you don't achieve 100% in killing yourself and the burden of looking after you becomes that of your loved ones ...

It's like a smoker saying "it's my body" ... wait until his teenage son has to bathe him everyday because his body is riddled with cancer and he can't get of bed.

well put cyclenut. brain injury (be it traumatic or almost-2cm lesions caused by lungcancer metastasising) can cause paralysis... napies and catheters etc that have to be changed and emptied by someone. home nursing isn't cheap. hospice only takes a patient for 14 days at a time. most houses aren't sized for easy use of hospital beds. i could give a lot more info if bothered of the patient. the family members get stressed. those with alcohol dependencies get worse. that adds to everyone else's stress. death comes when it's good an ready so the family must just brace themselves and deal with it, no matter how long it takes.

many families do not survive drawn out issues of this nature. cancer takes ages. traumatic head injury cos of being "too cool" to wear a helmet would take much longer. think about whether that's how you want to show the people you love and who love you just what you really think of them.
