Tubeless, or Not Tubeless...

Village Bicycle

Hey Guys,

My current tires on my MTB are coming to an end.  Now the decision stands, should I go ahead and have a Tubeless conversion done, what are the benefits & down falls?

Your thoughts...

Tubeless! Went for a short ride close to home on Sun. Cause I knew I was close enough to walk if I did flat I deliberately rode through plenty thorns. Had so many sticking out it wasn't funny. Short stint over some grass cleared most of them and the rest I pulled out in front of the house.

Stans was spraying all over the show, but it was over within a couple of seconds and according to the floor pump the tire didn't loose enough air to make a dif.

TUBELESS!

"The primary advantage is eliminating pinch flats which account for the vast majority of the flats experienced by aggressive off-road cyclists. Moreover, with the vulnerability to pinch flats virtually eliminated, off-road riders can safely run lower tire pressures which can improve traction in soft, muddy or sandy soil conditions. However, there are some practical limits to how low you can go. There are also purportedly some other "performance related benefits" but they are neglible for the average cyclist regardless of what the marketing guys will print ....."

Tubeless just FEELS better!!

It's like going commando...Shocked

@Village Bicycle:  Do a ghetto conversion yourself - just use UST tyres to make it a bit easier the first time round (not really necessary though).

both puncture and both can pinchflat. I ride still with tubes. easier on the pocket when buying tires(if you are buying tubeless tires.)

For the past 5 years I have never punctured with tubeless. And I have never used a tubeless tyre.

Tubeless for sure.  I'll pay the extra on tires any day compared to the inconvenience of a flat.

Most punctures I have seen with tubeless is sidewalls that gets cut
