Hi Guys

Was having trouble with ghost shifting my gears on my Giant Anthem X1 (XT rear mech SLX cranks) Chain, rings, cassette all badly worn, so replaced rings cassette (SRAM the red one?) XTR cables and new chain.

The shifting is a little better, but still not great.

I took it to my LBS to have the hanger checked for alignment, and guy said it was straight. He tried a new Xt rear mech, and said that was the problem, so I purchased the new mech. (something about play in my previous mech)

However, I am still haveing issues with ghost shifting?? Any one know what else I could check. I am pretty certain that it more than just a case of "set it up correctly" its definately something wrong??

SO far its been:

New rear mech XT

Chain XT

Chain rings (all three)

XTR Cables

Rear Cassette (SRAM)

Any ideas please???

Check the not so obvious.  Double check the new cable installation.  Cable or housing could be kinked.  We are all human and make mistakes. You can also check that the rear wheel is located correctly in the frame.  I once found the centralising spring on the skewer was installed back to front and got caught between the axle and frame.

also got an x1 and also had occasional ghost shifting. Got x9 on and no problems :) SRAM has stiffer springs and seems to be better in that respect.

it is when the bike shift mysteriously on its own. a skip and a jump. often to do with worn d?railleurs, sticky cables or dual suspension bikes.

Sometimes the cable get pinc in the outer casing..... as your bike use the susspension and it compresses and extends the outer casing moves with the susspension.  Now if the inner cable is pinched the movment of the outercasing due to the susspension being utilized pulls the cable causing shifting

1)  Re-look at yout cable route

2)   Replace your shifter cables

3) try leaving some slack.

Hope this helps

+1 on cable routing - let all the air out of your shock and check that the cable housing doesn't go tight at any point in the travel.

Had that problem when I first built my Epic FS and it was that the outer for the RD that goes under the BB was just a tad short. So as mentioned when the suspension moved a certain amount it would 'ghost' shift up and then down .....

Hi Dean I would prefer not to mention, and to be honest I generally try to support all the shops in town with spares and accessories.

I just happen to take it to this particular shop to check the hanger with one of there hanger alignment tools.
