I've got XT discs which when I apply brakes on a fast downhill they scream and squeal at a zillion decibels - which I am sure the locals enjoy at 4am. Any idea what could be wrong? The pads are brand new.
AndreZA Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Have you bedded them in yet? The only way to do this is to let them squeel untill it stops. I bed mine in with water. I take a bottle of water with me and wet the pads. I then pull the lever and cycle. It really builds up the heat so don't overdo. It will start squeeling again. Add more water and repeat untill noice stops. Now do other side.

jugheaddave Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 why not spray with a bit of WD40?? lol only kidding. Maybe try cleaning pads and rotors with some thinners/alcohol/or meths? Then they should hopefully stop screaming like TNT1's mother..
