I used to be one of those people that could accept a cyclist will wipe out one day but how do you land on your head without putting your hands out!

I was one of the fortuanate to finish the Attakwas 135k this weekend. 60km into the race on a down hill section my front wheel slipped out and i saw my mothers aunties birth canal .

Result - one smashed Met helmet ( well done , it did its job) , broken glasses( only after asking last week for replacement pieces on the Hub!!), one stainless steel bracelet ripped off, various custs and scratches on arm, leg, shoulder and slight concusion,

Other than that , one awesome , very hard race.

Any ideas for what make of helmet i can now buy?

I just want to know if there is better out there than the Met. I had the currnet helmet for about 8 years with out falls so i really cant fault it. What can i get for between R1000 - R1500?

Oh and by the way , thanks im fine but sore. Had one moerse headache when i finished though

To all those guys that stopped including my mate , big thanks to all of you!

Oops, sorry. Didn't mean to be insensitive. Hope you recover well.

Be on the lookout for any signs of concussion. Though you should be over the worst if there is any.

Might feel a bit out of sorts for a week or so.

Crash replacement only helps the first 3 years anyway.

for some of us we need it every year! (touch wood - haven't needed it since 2007....)

I'm suprised my Bell is still fine after my last crash. Then again Oak Valley is not the N2 LOL LOL LOL

read, much to my chagrin, that the met's safety rating, er, well, it doesn't have a great one. better off with a bell or giro.

Michael, well done on finishing. I think there was not a person in the entire race that did not have a moment.

glad your okish.....

as  to the helmet go for what you feel happy with..

i've been actively cycling for about 10 years...... mostly as a way to get around...

my first helmet.. cracked after  was his from behind... second dented while going over a bonet.... third well that one just oneday crumbled on me... the fourth i cracked going into the side of a alpha... the fifth i was never happy with didnt sit right.... and now i have my bell....

they there to protect your nogging so make sure they have no cracks in them.... even from just normal wear and tear... and replace the moment you start to doubt...

My mate (also a Michael) also did the endo thing and landed on his head - twice. Helmet saved him both times, although he was not as lucky and couldn't continue after water point 3. It it wasn't for the helmet, they would be feeding him through a tube right now...
