Stuff is in Sa, no local tracking number yet, sigh, will phone again tomorrow.

My stans podium mmx wheels have also been sent via usps today, should take about 10 working days.  Was marked as a $100 gift, will see if this either gets me through customs or gets me detained and shafted with duties when they land Ermm

Hey guys

I ordered some stuff (ok a fair bit) from CRC this morning. Used "Parcel Force International" as the shipping method so that it's free.

I specified my work address as the delivery address, but am I correct in assuming this actually goes to the post office so that tax/customs can be charged?

If so, does it just go to your "nearest" post office?

Thanks in advance!

If you chose parcel force then EMS will deliver to your work address. You need to have the cash ready so you can pay the courier directly.

EMS customer service really sux, their website tracking has never worked and I personally struggled to get throught to their call centre. I did always get my package though.

Thanks velo. When you say cash - should I bank on having about 16% of my order? Or is just 14% VAT I'll be charged?

I guess what I'm asking is how can I work out what the exact amount I need to have ready is. Smile

mikkelz: it depends on what side of the bed SARS woke up on.

if they full of crap, you going to have to fetch it from the central cleaering depot (not sure if it's called exactly that, but there is a SARS office attached to what looks like the central post depot here in cpt).

If they not full of crap, it goes straight thru to your local PO (LPO).

EITHER way, you will pay 14% VAT, and whatever customs duties are applicable. Bicycle spares dont attract duties, but clothing attracts the most, about 30% IIRC.

If you really lucky, you might not pay customs on some of the clothing items either! smiley2.gif it has happened before.

Thanks for the reply Capricorn!

I'll be hoping they wake up on the right side. Wink I'll work on 14% as I've only ordered bike spares, however I ordered 2x Park Tools: a chain wear indicator and a BB spanner. The rest of the order is just a crank, cassette, chain etc.

Apparently tools attract some additional duties? Either way, the combined value of the tools is under R300 so the charge shouldn't be too bad!

velo: not so, as the fact is, many times those packages have ended up at the local PO. Happened to many of the folks with whom i've placed orders. I dont know how it's supposed to be routed, but that's just a fact borne of experience.

as ngala24 hinted at previously: it was a bit of a lottery as SARS seemed to have taken a rather perculiar interest in all parcels originating from CRC, with often fallacious claims of they cant find the package invoice requiring the recipient to come in. Happened to me, but when I got there, the invoice was stuck in it's usual clear pouch on the outside of the CRC box. As always. Little punks...
