Was pretty impressed this afternoon while driving home.

Going down main road, just before witkoppen crossing there is a little shortcut that goes up to leslie i think it is, as i got there, there where 3 gentelman standing on side of road with a pretty decent black and white Giant MTB, as i pulled off SAP drove past, stopped them and was checking out the bike... atleast it looks like they are trying to do something about it

Also just heard on the 4:30pm highveld news that "concerns that criminals are changing from luxury cars to bicycles after 4 attacks in the last two weeks"

SAPS are definitely trying. I saw three people (two guys and a gal) riding on the spruit in SAPS uniform a couple of weeks ago. They were near Fratellis. Their bikes were old and outdated but they were there.

so lets stop giving stuff to this development mob and give a bit to the SAP. I believe Randburg has a few officers who are MTBers and regularly patrol the spruit and other places

Some guys still do work and do check for stolen property instead of sitting in taverns.

Also if your bike has been stolen check with a few police stations arround that area in there store,it may be there.

I have seen some damn nice bikes at the Police auctions....but after they have been in the stores for 2 or 3 years they don't look so good anymore.

It's easier to get rid of a bicycle than a car so thats why bike robberies are picking up.

Must say the best service I ever had from SAPS was in Dec in Mosselbay when they stole 4 of our bikes on the 30th Dec. I discovered it @ 5 in the morning, the inspector who took down my statement already left our place by 7.

I went and had some pics printed, which was collected from me at the beach by about 12. They told me they had a R 10k reward they could pay out, and will try get the pics in the local newspaper asap.

31st the detectives only worked till 12, and was off on 1st which was the friday. By monday 4th, they had discovered my road bike. Give credit where its due - its clear they know to be on the lookout for bikes. Lets hope it continues and the jackings stop soon.

Make it three.

Sure, I agree with giving to some development like that guy at Emperors. He deserves it and will use and appreciate any stuff which is given to him. But the SAPS also need some stuff to effectively do their jobs and patrol and protect the area that we frequently ride.
