Hello again all

PLease could someone advise me on whether clips actually help ALOT.

I got normal pedals on my Mt. Fuji currently but I bought shimano clip-in pedals waiting to be installed.

Will it make a big difference to my power on uphills etc?

I cycle with a friend who is actually less fit than me and rides less often, yet he kills me on uphills, is this because he is using clip-in pedals?

Is my stock pedal and MErrel shoe combo just not up to it? or should i change?

CHANGE infernox.  The problem with platform pedals are that you can't use the full circle pedal motion.  That's why you are being dropped, you can only push down on the pedals where your chum can push and pull.

Without clip-in pedals you pedal with the wrong part of the foor most of the time and you use shoes with too soft soles. Going clipless is not so bad. You get use to it quickly but you will fall over a few times. Just adjust them as loose as possible in the beginning and slowly tighten the grip as they wear in.

infernox, going to spd pedals will be one of the best things you could ever do. just remember that they do take getting used to and you will fall at lest once, but then it will become second nature.

If you want to do the skill clinic I think it costs R20 . But our advice is free and we will obviously not be doing the clinic ourself .

DAD Adventure CEntre , Sonia Rd , Doringkloof . I am in Weirdapark and cycle there Sat morning .

dirtrider' date=' ill see if i can make it,i live in MELVILLE (chinese translation:land with too many bloody hills)[/quote']

If you live in Melville then you should go practice in the Botanical gardens and then see if you can stay upright along the spruit. I will definately be doing the spruit next Sunday the 1st. Give a PM if you are interested.

Or wait for the next Hub ride at North Farm . That is the best way of getting info and learn . Our leader aka MichH is out of action for a while and we just waiting her speedy return !

d-r she's not totally out of action... might be doing an EASY ride along the spruit on Sunday with me and a newbie mtb'er. infernox, pm me if you're interested (it will be slow and non-technical - i'm still recovering from extended time off the bike)

Melville is cool, out south at Alberton is nice (non technical).  Easiest way to get used to clipless is to sit on your bike and hang onto a wall, clip in and out till you're used to it, then ride on some grass, stopping and going.  If you're comfortable there, you should be ready!

We do ride emerentia alot, but on the outside, due to us mostly riding at night.

On weekends i go to my brother in Carletonville where we do the rough offroad stuff and miles and miles and miles of clean singletrack.

Infernox, we going to be having a night ride on the 3rd that incorporates Alberts/Spruit & Delta Park, so you're welcome to join us.

I'll post a notice up next week.
