20100302_070115_Argus_90.jpg

did my first Argus on this Daccordi. I was in the SANDF and this was the perfect opp to get away from the unit for a week! Was running fit and could do a 2.4 in less than 7 mins. Cycling was another story though!!

Good memories

My best was 3:10 in 2006 on a Trek 1500 with 9 speed Ultegra.

I started riding in 2002 (racing in 2004 and first Argus in 2005) on dad's old bike which he got in the late 80's early 90's. It was a Panasonic DX5000 with Shimano 6 speed and those toe clip pedals. Still have the bike.

I did my second Argus in 1997 on a Hansom!  Saw the pic and it brought back good memories.  Did the ride in 4:00 (I was 15 at the time!)  I'll have to see if I can dig up the pics.

I regularly ride both modern and retro bikes like the one in the pic. In my opinion there have been only two major improvements over the years: Sti/Ergo levers and weight. I left out aerodynamics because I think there were some pretty aero bikes and wheels around in those days.

i always say, look at your Bicycle Playing Cards. Those bikes there are from 1890 or something, and they don't look that much different from your modern day roadie. Maybe the bottle cage is a good improvement.
