infernox' date=' even if you ride 1-2 hours a day you won't be putting heavy strain ont he chain - you spin more htan you grind and it's grinding heavy gears that stretches the chain faster[/quote']

A chain does not stretch. The sideplates of the chain is made of hi-tensile steel and can never stretch with the feeble effort of a human exerted on the chain. It is the other moving parts on a chain that wears away as crud, fine sand and other deliterous material enter the working parts of the chain. This then allows the chain to elongate........ but calling it "stretch" is a misnomer.

Although the chain does not "stretch" it does get longer ! And anything that gets longer has stretched in some way . It is easier to say my chain has stretched than my chain has a bad case of "elongivity" . smiley36.gif

I hope you went out and bought the Bicyling book because like oom Petoors say , it is a fool proof way of setting up your DT for smooth shifting .

Infernox, try refitting the wheel.  It sometimes happens when you fit the back wheel that it doesn't go in like it should and the result is that the gear changes are not right

ok problem..... i dont have that black screw thingy on my rear deralleur.

Ill try refitting the wheel.

i also tried fixing it myself last night by adjusting the little black screw thingy on the shifter itself and the screws on the DR (the high and low adjustment screws), got it right to a degree, but then went back to square one.

Btw: My Fuji uses Sram X9 rear deralleur

Don't listen to him, he's used to road bikes which are much more delicate. MTBs are there to have the cr@p ridden out of them and you will need to adjust things from time to time!
