My new Mongoose hardtail was stolen a month ago. Must get a new bike. The old bike had SRAM 0, weighed 10kg. but the Epic was a bit hard without softtail. Any suggestions (with maybe a link to a test or specs).

Mainly for Drifters, Epic type stuff. Had the GT I drive previously, a bit heavy.

And the 2 biggest chill zone clients in the Epic will team up next year. Fellow Hubber Dick will suffer behind me next year.  No sponsor yet.

Depends what you're looking for. It sounds like you are looking for a race bike with some creature comforts, i.e. 100mm travel dual suspension. As you know, I'm crazy about the Commencal, I have the Meta 5.5, but I think the Meta 4 would be more suited to your needs. Jean-Luc and Graham have demo stock all over the country, i'm sure they will have one for you to demo.

Marais Dekker races on one, and won the Gauteng Provincial a few months ago at Fountains on his Meta 4.

Does Raleigh (which 2007 Raleigh)have something similar to the Anthem? I will ride a Raleigh if I can save or get a better package for the same money. Will love to spend less of course.

THanks for all the advice

Not that i know much about MTB's .... my 50c's worth

But what about the Mongoose Canaan Team Edition? Awesome specs and comes in around R25K? They had one at Knysna. Stans ZTR wheels, SRAM X0, Avid (don't know which model) Disk brakes. Fox fork and shock (models?). Don't know about the weight though.

Maybe i'm just a little sentimental regarding Mongoose, reminds me of my BMX days and first BMX.  ;-)

Reason for Selling: Not cycling due to knee problems (old rugby ligament tear resulting in an unstable knee)

As far as I rember that bike is just over 11KGs..For value for money and weight wise there is nothing beating the Canaan Team Edition. Although the Raleigh comes in a very good second

and no..I dont ride one or sell them, i just went through that same exercise early in the year.

I read a write up somewhere, people not impressed with the heavy frame of the Mongoose softtail. Maybe I'll wait a month or 2 and see what 2008 bikes are available , and I need to ride fast to get a sponsor.Groot Lem2007-07-19 07:03:37
