This has to be the best publicity stunt in the history of the TDF. Rabobank has got what they wanted out of this tour already. Fantastic exposure from chicken in yellow for half the tour, the team on the front of the peleton every day all day and now the crowning glory to prove how ethical they are ... withdrawing the tour leader on suspicion. They couldn't have gotten better publcity if they had planned it. Off course the risk of letting chicken continue and turn the TDF into a Floyd farce again would have damaged Rabobank tremendously ... who cares about the win in Paris ... they got what they wanted ... publicity.

Haha the first year I watch the TDF and every one is doping.

Get all excited watching the dual between Contador and Rasmussen and it's all a joke.

Wonder if there will be a TDF next year.

You can watch the Tour 10 years from now and everyone will STILL be doping... just like 10 years before Wink

Might be unfair' date=' but that is the ruling and they all know it. Same as rio ferdinand missing his test and being banned from football for a year. I was hoping that Rasmussen could do it, but if you get caught breaking the laws, bye bye and that's the way it should be.[/quote']

Rio Ferdinand repeatedly avoided turning up for pre-arranged tests. If he had been a pro-tour cyclist he would have had a 2 year ban and have been out of the protour for 4 years far sooner than what he was lightly sanctioned.

Rasmussen is only guilty, in terms of UCI rules, of not giving his whereabouts, and on that basis his team was prepared to continue to support him. He however lied to his team about his actual whereabouts, and Rabobank have dismissed him for that. Given the circumstances, I believe Rabobank were correct in supporting him as at the press conference, but now dismissing him for having lied to them.

very valid...Chris Fisher said yesterday the past 2 and half weeks of TBW in the Tour already Barloworld made back what they spent over the last 5 years...

talk about a good return on your investment

What else could Rabobank do? They found out Rasmusen was in Italy in June when he told them he was in Mexico. The press would also have figured this out at some point.

I,m a newbie to this site, as you can tell from the number of posts and have recently started riding again. I have been watching the tour most days and have to say that yesterdays revelations have left a very sour taste in my mouth regarding the tour. In my amature opinion, test the riders prior to the race and during. No test no ride.(all proffesional races) Do not come at the death and now start bringing up the past 18 months for Sucks Fakes. If this continues there will be no tour in the future which will be very sad for our sport. Contodor and Evans will always question wether they could have legitamately beaten the "Chicken". I certainly would not like to win something on technicalities. Just my 2c.

Sorry, one more thing, big up to Barloworld, Hunter and Soler. Pity they have to be associated with this particular tour.

Alex007, Rasmusen was tested lots of times, same as Basso, Ulrich etc. Like them he always tested clean.

Sadly it looks as if dopers are ahead of testers by some margin.

Rasmusen got withdrawn and fired from his team because of suspicion, there is no proof that he doped.

If it looks like a chicken, and walks like a chicken and sounds like a chicken.....

Then it's probably a chicken.

Thanks Christie. Has there been a topic previously on how exactly the testing is done etc... I do know that they randomly pick, but who gives a sh*t if some chap lying in 78th postion is full of banned substances he is still not good enough. What I'm saying is and hence why I'm asking cause I wouldn't have a clue, why not test on  a daily basis the top 20 GC and the top 10 per jersey?

I do not condone the lie, but I was so keen on watching the TT unfold on Saturday. I was hoping " Chicken" could hold them off and a climber win the tour.

Even if there is no proof, the suspicion confirms his intent: to lie.

Rasmussen lied to his team, management and himself. This goes to the core of the relationship: dishonesty.

I surely don't want somebody to work for me who is a hardcore liar!!!

Shocked
