Drug testing in local leaque and provincial events

Hi

Can anyone tell me if the leaque and provincial champs get supported by drug testing etc. It just makes sense that if we want to stop the use of drugs its got to start at the lower levels of racing and move up from there!!!

Or should the opposing question be: Isn`t the races so physicially demanding (pro-level etc) that competitors feel its a do or die senario when it comes to banded substances - either they use or don`t bother competing!!!

Another thought; Shouldn`t the team managers get the boot if their riders get caught for using stuff?? Surely, they know what the docter is giving the riders or should know for that matter!!!

If people must dope to win WP races then they are far gone. I will only dope if i ride the Tour, and I wont ride it.

Hehehe... I was quoting from an article someone posted here. The guy willingly went on steriods, HGH, EPO, etc. Over the course of 6months he spent $7k on pills and potions...

Stingray, its a great idea, but unfortunately due to the extremely high costs of drug testing, the answer is no. There is no testing in the local league or even at provincial level.  Testing in cannot be done just anywhere in SA, only the LAB in Bloemfontein can do these drug tests.

At the moment only at SA's level testing gets done.

They just have to keep going, it doesn't help they test at one small event and then leave it. I hope to see them at more races.  there were a few sombre faces...

GOOD !! Thumbs%20Up  Like I said there was probably someone willing to sponsor the costs of this testing.  The organisers maybe ?

If we can find more sponsors to help clean up, the better.

If they take R20.00 of every entry at races i'm sure they can put that towards testing. I'm even willing to pay another R20.00 even a bit more every race if i know people are going to get caught!!

Either somebody was willing to sponsor or else the Drug Institute decided to test.  They do random tests all year round at various sports.

They also do out of competition testing as well, when they just arrive at your house and ask for a sample.  I know of quite a number of Cape Town riders who have been tested a few times over the past two to three years.

What was interesting is how long it took some riders to get to the testing when they wer called. Some took 15 - 20 minutes after being called.
