Last night I changed my back tire on my bike.

The tire had never been used tubeless, although it is a tubeless Tire. There were obviously holes that needed to be sealed so I pumped it up to 3 bar so the sealant could do its magic.

After not sealing totally I added some OKO to the No-Flats sealant. Later on about 30min while I was in bed I heard a huge explosion. Looked at the bike and there was the tire off the rim and a mess.

Put the tire back on , pumped it to 2 bar and went back to bed, not 5 minuts and there was another bang, so i just left it.

10 minutes later, the untouched front tires exploded off the rim. I can understand that mixing the sealants may have caused the back to do something out of the ordinary but the front has been like that for over a week.

Any theories?

Tires: Kenda (cant remember) 2.2

Sealant: No-Flats and then some trustworthy OKO

Rims: Cane Creek ZONOS

Check post on page 2 for my solution.

When uncontrolled explosions happen some explosives do detonate with sympathetic detonations. All I can think of ....... co-incidence maybe, but you had better find the cause...... tyres exploding at speed may leave a bad taste in your mouf!!!!!!!

put them on again and pump them, but this time stay there and watch. The tyre must be jumping off at the bead somewhere. You may need to adjust your rim strip/tape thickness.

Check it it jumps off without sealant. 2bliss tyres dont need sealant to inflate then watch again.

The key word here is KENDA. I had 3 Kenda Karma tyres explode. This is not very pleasant at 3am and you have to clean Stans off walls ceilings and furniture.

But then I SAW THE LIGHT!! Conti Race King and a Conti Mountain King.

Anyway it appears as if Kenda Tyres do not enjoy sealant.

Somehow the mixture you used reactedto each other gausing gas to be realeased.

This would mean that your tyre pressure went form 3 bar to 4bar wihic is too much for most UST tyres.

First off I would recomend changing tyres to Swhalbe/Conti/Geax/Maxxis but also chech you bead just in case.

Personal opinion - never pump UST tyres more than 2.5 bar. I ride 1.8 front - 2.0 rear and I`m not the smallest lad round town.

Dont go crazy with tyre pressures - it will go bang!

This almost ALWAYS happen because the bead has stretched, BUT can also happen on certain rims, depending on the rim hook height and shape AND depending on the tyre brand, some has tight fitting beads, others don't... I've personally never had a problem with a Kenda... In fact, I love Kenda's...

It's happen to me as well before. I now NEVER inflate any non-tubeless or tubeless tyre above 2.5 bar when seating, and never over 2 bar while riding... (70kg rider)

Are you using a thick type rim strip like Stans? or just tape?

IMHO and no I am no expert but pumping it to 3bar and leaving it will make no difference to the sealant doing its job at the one spot that it rests. Probably better off to pump 2 bar as suggested and do the spin the wheel and wobble around rather .....

I had the same experience about three times, with once riding my bike at 25km... fortunately I managed to control the bike without a crash. This was a worrying situation for me, so I did some research to prevent a reoccurrance. Found that sealant in the tyres are responsible for an inaccurate reading on my floor pump, and instead of the pressure being 3 bar, the actual pressure was 4 bar or more. I now inflate .5 bar or so less, and never had the problem again...so far! It is always a good idea to use lots of soapy solution to seat the tyres properly at first, and make sure the beading has seated during high pressure. Ater that relaese some air to get the required inflation.
