i Hate Giant

jas, some of you dorks are harsh (but thanks for the attention i like it)

I wasnt saying that Giant as a brand is awesome (some people say it is, some people say it isnt, all that i am saying is that i LOVE my Giant Alias 2006).

 

I am simply saying that i purchased a bike thinking that it would be **** and it turned out better than the bike that i thought would never be bettered (in that price range)

 

If i had the bucks i would probably try the Bottechetta's / Specialized's / %insertpricerbrandhere% and i would bl00dywell hope that they ride a hell of alot better, because they cost like 5+ times more.

 

I also simply asked if anyone else has had there eyes opened.

 

Whether (i can never spell that word right, did i get it?) it be on a 30,000 racing beast or a 5000 humper (like i have)

 

As for passing lots of Anthems, it is probably simply because they have a greater market share. riding fast is riding fast, you can ride fast on a bike that feels like ****.

 

Trust me, when i get the bucks i will get a better bike.

rode kona,silverback, fuji and specialized ....but my anthem with full xtr and bells streamers ...

is truly the best bike i have rode ...after long rides i still want to climb back on and go for another ...

 

saving for the anthem sl 29er now so if anyone wants a anthem in red and white with full xtr ,rp23 and reba race.

Don't believe for one moment that a more expensive bike is necessary better!! I don't always believe that...

I appreciate your comment about a first being biased and then actually enjoying your bike...

you can even add bar ends if you so like...forget what the "others" think/say...just enjoy it!!

Thanks to Giant, we have affordable bikes that stands up to the quality and performance of the niche, pay-for-the-name, pay-for-the-painting brands. Sure, Giant is'nt always a painting but then again I don't rate my paintings on their handling performace. Had planty mtbs before, but now there is only one girl for me and she is big, really big...in fact she is a Giant!

When I got into Mountain biking in '03 I was not impressed with Giant's appearance what so ever, so I opted for the GT Avalanche in the same price bracket. Did plenty miles on her and loved the feel of the bike.

I was then given the chance to buy an XTC NRS1 and this is where things started to go wrong for me, as in badly. To cut a short story long... I now have my 2nd Trance (due to affirmative shopping of 1st Trance) and love the bike, It is my Presiousssss :-) I even went and got me a Giant Roadbike!!!

 

Now comparing the bike with any other brands I have ridden before is not fair as each and every bike is different in design, geometry and setups and will have a different feel.

Been on 2 Spech Epics, Scott hardtail, Scott Genius, Crack-en-Fail Prophet and Rush and my trusty GT. None felt as comfortable in handling and performance in comparison to my GT and Trance. Possibly due to setup and geometry.

 

I am not dissing any of the other brands, but I feel that you get a quality bike for a reasonable price when buying a Giant. The bike will not stand out in the crowd, but it gets the job done. Oh and as for going up hills and down hills and people passing "all the Giants", that is more a rider's technical ability issue than a bike issue :-)

What is it with all the GT owners "upgrading" to Giants? So GT is actually worse than Giant.. Now there's a thing.

Bikes are all pretty much of a muchness and any bike you ride will be one you grow to like.

 

One person who frequesnts the hallowed passages (the Hub) said Trek was the best and he wouldn't change it. The he got a Specialised. Now he swears by that.

 

Compared to my Petini, the Trek SLR I am riding (on loan from another fellow hubber) is actaully a magic ride.I'd seriously consider buying it if it came up for sale.

 

Although I only rode my Colnago for two rides before I broke it in an accident, that was also a magic bike to ride.

 

Right now, I'd ride anything that works. Really fellas, there is no such thing as a bad bike these days. (Except my other mates Madone 5.1. Sheeesh, that frame flex would have me take up road running again before riding that. Hooters and motorists are enough hassle to deal with while cycling..... Who needs the additional brown stuff overflow from a flexible frame.

I also didn't like Giant very much and then bought an XTC frame because I broke my previous Orbea frame and the XTC was a good deal. I was pleasantly surprised by the frame. Very stiff and light for alu. Nice geometry as well. I love it!

you right slavie - no such bike as a bad bike. hell i'd even ride on tar if there's really no more singletrack left anywhere. I loved every bike i've owned so far.

 

i absolutely loved the trance when i test-rode it first. i wasn't in the market for a dual-sus - rode a friends, and it didn't feel any different from mine. rode the trance and wow, the bike chose me there & then. i've ridden some other to compare, but it was love at first sight with the trance. afterwards i realised it was possibly the geometry and the frontshock (and setup thereof) rather then the fact that it was ds that sold it.

 

 

BUT i took the hardtail to the himalayas for different reasons - and fell in love with it all over again.

Bike Radar, "What mountain bike" probably the only magazine worth taking note of when of the five editors/journalists that collectively have an average of 26 years riding experience and testing MTB only. I dont know of any other source that one could trust when they test a bike or give an opinion.

Giant Anthem 2 is rated best best XC bike 2 years running, with the Trance X3 best entry level trial bike. They run extensive tests on hundreds of MTB every day of their lives, pretty awesome. Do I crack a commission deal with them?

I ride specialized but u have to bow down to the opinions of these 5 very experienced riders?

I enjoy my Nike Zoom Vomero+ 5 as the most comfy of all my ... oohh bikes...? I have to say that a bike is a bike is a bike.

 

As a kid I used to jump a 14 speed Peugeot, used a Humber for downhilling, and a Chopper for single tracking through the bush of Northern Natal.Any and all of them where used to race any kind of motorised vehicle that was not going too fast. It was all fun.

I've dallied with cycling over the last 2 years again, and made a point of buying cheap, and I cannot say that 'cheap' held me back at all...

 

I had the idea to do the 2011 94.7 on a Humber (dikwiel back pedal delivery bike) . Nogals in and overall and with arial, mirrors and carrier. Unfortunately it seems as if a shoulder problem is going to keep me off the bicycle (going to get final confirmation from a second doc this month). Just to show that any cycling is a fun activity, irrespective of the sticker on the frame, the bits hung onto the frame, the material any of the bits (frame included) are made of, nor the stickers on said bits, or the logos on your shirt, nor the fancy lycra pants you are wearing.

 

So: a bike is a bike is a bike and all bikes are fun!
