So take them bitchin' and go post on a motoring site!

The thing is the motorist was correct and the cyclists was at fault. Why should the motorist slow down to 30km/h in a 80 zone to pass cyclists thats cycling abreast chatting to each other and then the motorists should pass them on a solid line to continue his journey and then during that act the motorist breaks the law for passing on a solid line.

Please think logic

way to go lipton, nice introduction to the hub.

dont worry, we all hate stupid cyclists, even Spinnekop and system6.

in any event, if you overtake a cyclist and somebody pulls out and block your path, what would you do? I mow the three abrast, middle of the road, mtn wearing fellow instead having a head on collision any day.

and before anybody will flame me, just remember organ donors are needed in any society. think about it.

True......but I don't want to kill them......mabe just hurt them a little..... ;)

I trust this was said in jest...if not, this just proves the stunning SA, bloukoei, 4x4/BMW, biltong vretende, FAT attitude of South African motorist.......

So taking this serious.....on a Friday.....I will not want to be you having to go tell one of those cyclist's little 3 year old daughter that you killed her dad because he was stupid and you were speeding (Not being able to stop in time doing 60 in a built area-driver pulling out) or that you were impatient and could not wait 30 seconds longer........sorry girl....you will never play again with your dad....he was stupid.

Sure dude.....

So, actually, you see his point. No one has the right to mow anyone down. Agreed. But cyclists always gets off second best, that’s why we need to use our heads and not ride like idiots.

I have been thinking this morning.....doesn't happen often.....the bus trying to kill me while I was cycling in the yellow lane made me start thinking.....

Why do we as humans always want a CULPRIT......WHO IS QUILTY? WHO'S FAULT IS IT? blah blah blah....Tiepies (*%$(%*$)(^ VROUMENS crap!!!!

I don't want to know who was at fault.....and as Squier rightly points out, the cyclist always gets off second best......

So if Impala and Wildebeest and monkeys can protect their own no matter how stupid they act.....getting to close to the lion.....playing with snakes....they always stand up as a 'herd'.

And THAT IS WHAT GRINDS MY ASS about these COUNTLESS USELESS threads on the hub about bitching and moaning about cyclist........

You are a roadie......cyclist....yes, they are as dumb as a piece of rock not obeying the road rules.....relax.....put the car in second gear and wind down the windows blasting some thumping tunes....the cyclist will then be protected from idiot motorist and have some noise in their ears.....

Or something like that.

Again.....what they did was wrong....hell....I saw 86 infringements again from motorists on my commute this morning.......wrong is wrong.

Moaning on the Hub.....does not help NOTHING!!!

"hond vreet hond" is the old saying......unable to protect our own specie....even if the specie is dumb.

Rule of nature.....if that animal stays dumb and does not EVENTUALLY learn from his mistakes, he will get taken out.

So let nature takes it course......in the mean time try and be patient with the 'dumb/idiots/law breaking' fellow specie......they might just learn from you one day...

Spidy, you feeling better now?

Not yet, but I am getting there....... B)

So because motorists breaks the law we can too? Something fundamentally wrong with that mentality.

1. Its illegal to cycle on highways, so dont do it.

2. Its illegal to ride abreast so dont do it. (unless the shoulder is big enough to accomodate this)

I mean we know this topic has been banged to death. And still the guys riding in the middle of the road continue doing so, and normally they are the first to cry when a cyclist gets knocked down. I see situations daily where i think to myself dude your taking your own life in your hands cycling like that.

And dont want to steriotype but where i live I only see the MTB guys riding abreast when the shoulder is big enough, otherwise they ride signle file, roadies I see in groups of 10-30 riding 5-6 abreast 2-4 of them in the middle of the road. I also see roadies cutting through roads which have no shoulder whatsoever and on these roads its extremely difficult to pass. So we wonder why motorists gets frustrated?

Remember guys even though you like your pelaton training, its not a right to do so. And the laws of the road should simply be uphold even if other idiots break the laws.

This is a big problem, I see it often and I think it's very inconsiderate.

Yip I am a roadie :D

Dont care about post counts just strange to see someone just joined thehub and first post is a complaint about roadies but ok maybe we deserve it.

Joey - we dont deserve it, some idiots might, but I canassure you plenty more are not guilty of this behaviour. I certainly would like to believe that I aint...

I suppose teh mtb riders who claim the roadies are this and that havent yet come across mtb'ers riding on the wrong side of the road on a busy duel carriage on their way to Rietvlei???? But that would obviously be justified by some stupid argument. BTW I ride both road and mtb

Yes, riding two abreast is wrong, against the law. When its quiet, is there no middleground. A huge problem is a bit of tolerance. Why, is it so difficult for the general motorist to just go to the right , give a bit of space until he /she passed the cyclists. It seems that the white line is some kind of a barrier(I'm not talking about the solid white line now) Is it really so difficult. Looking at the amount of space between cars , line width, you can just indicate and without cmpletely going into the next lane just straddle the lanes and return once passed. But people seems to be under so much control by the lines that they won't move over. But also, they can't anticipate, because their minds are somewhere else...talking on cellphones, smoking, listening to music, some people just get lost on their music.

Why do I feel now like I've said this before... arg well, new day, new topic...

Lovely way to start the week-end. I know you will shoot me down as well but this needs to be said.Out in Florida on the West Rand you have the Esmero cycling team doing exactly the same every afternoon on the circle at the end of our street "Alexander street", they simply ride four to six abreast and don't give a damn about cars or pedestrians on the road."bear in mind we have a creche on the loop as well.

Yesterday one of their youngsters almost became another statistic if the lady in the Corsa was not alert and braked in time. The day anyone blames the motorists when one is knocked I will provide the photo's to the motorist and bear witness to their stupidity as Metro simply tells us they cannot act.

By the way when issue was addressed in a civilized manner with one or two of the cyclists I was simply given a dumb look

I'm under correction here, but isn't there a section in the Road Traffic Act that classify a cyclist as a "road user", and as such bound by all the traffic rules. Cyclist are prohibited on certain roads and should stay off them, period.

There is also (or there was) a section that says that a "road user" (read motorist) approaching a slower moving vehicle from behind, MAY ONLY PASS SAID VEHICLE WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.

The way I read and understood that act, I, as a cyclist and therefore ROAD USER, may cycle IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD,BUT NOT TWO ABREAST, (only when in the process of overtaking), and other road users may only pass me when it is safe to do so. This is stupid to do on a open road where speeds are in excess of 100km/h, but in town / congested roads, I take up my place in the road and protect it. I'm vigilant and make my intentions clear as to what I'll be doing next by using hand signals. Up to date I've experienced very few problems doing this. When cycling on the shoulder, I get cut off, pushed off, etc. Not so when in middle of lane.

Anybody more up to date with the act that can expand on this a bit more?

"A BIT OFF SYMPATHY" i think you must think before you write something like that on this site, whaite tlii you ore one off your budies or mabe you your self was hit by one off these motorist

Rode with a bunch recently who kept riding 3 abreast even when there were cars sitting behind them, was the most embarrassing thing I've done in ages!

You need to get out more ;-)

Possibly not as embarrassing as showing up for a 500km bike tour in Malawi with 70 guys from SA & realising the night before that my shoes were at home in the garage.

No where was that said.

The point is......please read slow.....I'll type it slow....

EVERYONE BREAKS THE LAW.......Moaning on the hub about cyclist does not help......moaning in general does not help........Keep your side clean and go ride your bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Slow enough????

2. Its illegal to ride abreast so don't do it. (unless the shoulder is big enough to accommodate this)

Even if the shoulder is big enough....STILL ILLEGAL! Bit of cyclist stupidity here???? ;) :P

I mean we know this topic has been banged to death.

Dude...you have NO IDEA!!!!!!

I have seen so many of HOND VREET HOND on this site and every other institution in this country it makes me sick to no end.....why do you think SA has 5 gazillion churches????? No one can stand together.....

And still the guys riding in the middle of the road continue doing so, and normally they are the first to cry when a cyclist gets knocked down. I see situations daily where i think to myself dude your taking your own life in your hands cycling like that.

Dude.....please....pull your head out of the sand.......

There are about 47mil people in SA.

About 160 000 registered cyclist on SuperSeeding list

About.......100 000 not registered fun riders out there?

There are about 5000 registered Hubbers?

To put it in perspective for you......The Hub represents 0.01 of a % of the community in SA and then one step further.....Thy Hub gets read and browsed by 2% of the cycling community.

So no matter HOW MUCH YOU MOAN ON THE HUB, only 2% of cyclists in SA will read it......SHOCKING HEY?

AND

Here is the deal breaker.........that 2%.....ALL LAW ABIDING, SINGLE LINE, "The world's best" cyclists........

Slow typing here....IT DOES NOT HELP TO MOAN ON THE HUB ABOUT CYCLISTS.......

Maybe slower? B) :P

And dont want to steriotype but where i live I only see the MTB guys riding abreast when the shoulder is big enough, otherwise they ride signle file, roadies I see in groups of 10-30 riding 5-6 abreast 2-4 of them in the middle of the road. Lets get things straight.....raodies in general are d@se....we are not arguing that.....

That established....what is your point?

People in GENERAL......roadies, MTB....BMW drivers, biltong vreters....GENERAL....

All of them break the law.

I see it every 5 or so minutes on my ride.....

Moaning......*slllloooowwww type*.....DOES NOT HELP.....

Remember guys even though you like your pelaton training, its not a right to do so. And the laws of the road should simply be uphold even if other idiots break the laws.

There we go.....us 2 percent will keep our side clean.....that has been established....

How to educate the other 46 odd MILLION?.......no idea!!!!!!!!! You any bright spark ideas on a Friday? ;)

OK....enought smack talking......Cheers!

Unfortunately so true... exactly why I try my best to only train with small groups of riders. Rode with a bunch recently who kept riding 3 abreast even when there were cars sitting behind them, was the most embarrassing thing I've done in ages!

thats when I usually slow down and let them go...
