Standard PPA fees do NOT apply

I seem to be seeing this more and more, Rides organised under the PPA, using their seeding, infrastructure etc and basicaly just another PPA ride but a higher fee. Means you cant use an easy entry. This used to be the exception but now seems way more common. It is a bit annoying.

I think so...a ride is successful one year, and suddenly the next year organizers think they can milk it just a little bit more.  Seems to occur when rides are part of a bigger festival in an area.

If this goes ahead it will kill funrides....suddenly the guy who just wants to do the local church ride will have to fork out R 60 for the ride, R 5 for the temporary number + R 30 for the licence....R95..don't think so!

[/quote'] Sorry Homer but I dont agree with you on that. The West Coast Express and many others donate the funds to charities or use it for cycling. The WCE, since its inception has donated more than R 100 000.00 to Table View based charities.

 

None of the surplus funds raised from the WCE goes into any private pocket. We do keep some of the money back but that is in a kitty in case we dont get a main sponsor for the next years event.

 

On the point of excessive fees, yes with the CSA thing it is getting way to expensive and that puts pressure on organisations like ours and the risk factor is increasing by the year. Costs are also huge and it burns me huge when I see a R 20 000.00 traffic cop bill for the WCE.

I agree with MDK here the problem maybe lies deeper than the organisers or with PPA but I do agree that you are being ripped off if you buy the easy entry tickets and cant use them for the races.

 

Has anyone spoken to PPA about this matter atall???

Agree totally MDK, in most cases the road rides are being killed by the costs the organizers have to bear; which will eventually force up the entry fees.  My comment was more about certain MTB rides that, more and more, seem to be more expensive than the standard PPA rides.

Jip and then there is a race like Eselfontein this weekend, where I pay my entry with a Easy Entry Ticket for 70km of the best single track. And the water tables are stocked, and there's a carnival atmosphere and and and!

 

Better value than that you will not get.  Needless to say, I'm the first to boycot the expensive MTB races because I see it as a rip-off.

[/quote'] Hmmmm...... see your point of view and whlist the numbers at MTB events arent quite the same as road but surely the costs much be considerably lower. I looked at hosting a MTB event at a wine farm up the West Coast Rd and the costs came out at 15 - 20% of the WCE.

I believe that PPA are doing best they can when it comes to assisting the organisors when it comes to putting the events together but I dont beleive that the easy entry thing is the correct way to go.

 

Each event is differant and so to should be the costs. The organisors should also be allowed to set their own entry fees as why should riders  doing the 20 km and 40 km pay the same amount as those doing the 80km?
