Oh ja, I saw that, would rather go UST though as I'm planning to do the whole Stans thing. You have that combo hey covie? Any feedback? Did you use the UST for your conversion or just the regular ones?

Took my wheelset to CWC yesterday to have the conti combo fitted and the rims converted (now that prices are getting reasonable) will take the bike out for a spin tonight to see how it goes.

Any experience with the Bontrager Revolt UST? I see they going for R199.95 at the Solomons sale

From reading loads of threads most people yourway like the maxxis thing since its mostly dry weather, and the top combo in the cape seems to be the conti combo.

Have never even seen bontrager tyres in the flesh

I have a Geax Saguaro 2.2 in the front and a Geax Mezcal 2.1 on the back. Whats nice with the Geax is that you can have the tire on for extra grip or for speed. The Saguaro has loads of grip. Its a great tire!! :)

I am now actually wanting to take the tyre off and change the direction for speed as I find it grips to much in soft sand. But its a pain doing it with tubeless.

I've run with mountain king 2.4's great for down single tracks but a bugger when climbing they dont seem to roll very easily and they sap your power, be carefull about going over 2.2 on the rear without checking it could be costly if it rubs up against the frame and also if you ride in muddy conditions. if there's no space the mud can scratch the frame. For racing I use a fastrak on the back and mezcal 2.1( normally on the rear) but it rolls so well and for racing has enough grip to be upfront, although want to try a captain control up front. for playing I run Saguaro back and front, both 2.2 and you can run them at low pressure.

Ok, time for a final decision guys cause i am getting confused here.

Reckon i will go for the conti race king 2.1 (back) and conti mountain king 2.2 (front)

Thanks for all the help.

Just got my wheels back all converted with the conti combo, thinking of taking the day off tomorrow to hit some trails and see if they live up to their rep.

Bontragers are super grippy but the side walls are suspect, so not really suited to heavier riders or any ride in the Karoo. Those rocks will eat the 'tragers for breakfast.

A better bet would be the Mountain king or the Saguro 2.2 on the front. The Saguro is a slightly higher volume tyre, so you can go down to 1.8 or 1.9 Bar, increasing grip and comfort, without danger of knocking the rim.

Took the bike for a spin through Majik with the shiny new conti combo, have to admit very impressed with the grip, and cant say rolling resitance is fair. Did see my ass once, but that was'nt the tyres, just my poor skills. The race king gives more grip at the rear under braking and stopped to much at the one drop off.

Need to get used to them over longer distances on some more rockier terrain to see if I like them, but first impressions are good so far. Also have to work out what the minumum pressure is i can run them at, Ran them at ATM its 2.5bar think i can lower it a bit.

Taken some time but finally got round to it.

Replaced my front tyre (maxis cross mark) with a schwalbe rocket Ron and went for a ride in Tokai yesterday. What an improvement in the handling. By the end of the ride all my poor handling concerns were gone.

Only concern now is that apparently the rocket ron don't last so well. Any comments on this?

fatter tires is not the answer. world XC racers are racing on Monorails. with no washout.

Slow your rebound down a bit. it will solve the problem.

if you dont want to do that then go ahead and listen to the peeps here who seems to know alot about nothing.

another reason could be under inflation on the front, from 75kg you start at 35psi upwards. irrespective if you are using a tubeless tire or not.

Pm me..i will help you out
