I realized yesterday that I happily empty my pockets for bike bits and stage race fees, but I am very stingy towards spending on energy/recovery/nutritional products.

Surely the engine is more important than the rest of the car.

What's the use of polishing the pistons, lowering the suspension, putting HP tyres on and installing turbos (training) if you put Diesel in the petrol tank!

Suspecting I am not the only one!

(sponsors, this is where you PM me for bribes

 )

I'm fine with spending on anything cycling related be it drinks or cables. But I cannot spend on casual clothing. I'll rather wear a Pep stores jean pant just so that I can buy a R300 mini pump.

LOL 'cause my wife she is bitching about the same thing. She even buys me my clothes now as I refuse to buy anything I cannot wear/use on the saddle :)

That has me almost pissing my "pant" - Jean Pant/ White Pant  Bwahh ha ha. Spending on the bike is spending on me, I go out to clubs in my riding gear, cleats and all. ;)

how true knobby, but i've made my realisation that The Machine = Man + Sled a while back, and have been putting in a lot of effort to get stronger and leaner. Confirmation of my intentions strangely, came with this recent stack of mine. It highlight just how much more i need to invest in some weight training to get muscles strong (i had severe cramps over a 3 period about 3 days AFTER the crash. The cramps only affected muscles directly related to the fall :biceps, triceps, forearm muscles, chest muscles). If these muscles had not been strengthed during training, i reckon i would have dislocated something, or worse, broken it.

Sometimes, i think we try to gloss over our physical shortcomings by spending more on the bike :) Asymptotic gains.

The gains from shinier bike bits may well be asymptotic, but the gains from the stuff from the pharmacist are psychosomatic!

Unless you're being paid to ride your bike, eating sensibly, riding your bike and having fun are what it's all about. Do those and you will go every bit as fast as you would do by manufacturing expensive pee.

This is me talking two days ago, but I spend too much time on the hub and google yesterday. It's the eating sensibly part, especially during and after a lekka ride that's so much easier to do with a bottle filled by stuff made by people who knows better. Also what's the difference in price between a plate of the right food compared to a bottle of the right stuff? I don't think that much.

Im not a big one for supplements myself but they do help, its a combination of everything I think - Eating sensibly, training properly, getting enough rest(major factor as far as muscle recovery & growth) The supplements will definatly help with muscle growth & recovery( just a protein supplement for that)

But dont think you need to spend to much on that, they all do the same thing. I stand too be corrected if Im talking rubbish. But it works for me.

Its relative in life, I dont think its completly healthy for all spending to just be on cycling related things.

You are right. If there's money left at the end of the month I spend it on my PC or Cross-box.
