Try using frontline spray, give one or two quirts on your legs and you'll be sorted, I personally use it all the time, help quite a bit with wildlife game capture and with the frontline have no problems with ticks and tickbites.

Generally you can spray doom on your jeans if you hiking and they don't dig it. Onto skin may noy be such a hot idea though....

What about rubbing tabard or similar on your legs before you go ride?

Also, the little critters only carry the tick bite fever strain at certain times of year - check when they are and just be careful and check once you have finished your ride. Other than that beer makes most problems go away - vast quantities naturally

Only septic tanks hike in jeans.

Use tabard in copius quantities when you hike or ride.

I have never seen as many ticks as in Swazi and Transkei. They hang on the grass like fruit waiting to strike. Also up Lake Sibaya way.

Tick bite fever is actually babesiosis which is a blood parasite. The tick bites and you contract the parasite which then multiply in your blood steam. It takes your bodys immune system and drugs to fight it off. It is not the tick itself which causes it, it is the parasite you get when said tick bites you. Not something to mess with.

Spray your legs, socks and even your bike with a good repellant. Tabard works but weakens quickly. Try a few products and see what works as you need something that will last a lot longer than an hour or so on long rides.

In South Africa, the cause of human tick bite fever is either Rickettsia conorii, or Rickettsia africae. This is a bacteria, not a parasite.

Babesiosis occurs mostly in dogs and cats in South Africa.

Both are NOT to be taken lightly!

I had some high concentration DEET "Bushman" repellant from Aussie but that stuff could also strip paint from your walls!
