Maybe I wouldn't feel so robbed if they through in a T-shirt, or at least a decent goody bag. The quality of the bags has gone to hell in the last few years.

Is Argus any better, probably not, also around the same cost. The smaller events are far far better.

Guys,

Its the fun ride world champs, just chill.

Its a fun day out in the sun. There are a ton of other serious races out there to set times in.

I'm chilling it this year, riding it for charity. At worst, its a fun day out in the sun. my 2c

cycling is fun. Having full road closure is lekker. I have dodged many cars/obstacles in a few races.

I enjoy the 94.7 and will continue to do so.

The route is not important. The time is not important.

What is important for the race snakes is you position in your start group. Try win that, and worry about time later.

I don't have an issue about the route.

BUT I DO HAVE AN ISSUE ABOUT THE PRICE.

Next year it will be over R300, and I won't pay that on principal.

They are expecting 26000 cyclists this year. That means over 7 Million Rand, excluding sponsorships.

Why don't they spend some of that money on something that benefits the people that support the race.

How about putting a bit of effort into fixing cycling safety.

Someone is making a lot of money on this race, and has gotten greedy.

thing that really pisses me off is that the entry fees increase every year but the prize money has stayed the same for the last 3 years and then a 10% portion of the winning money still needs to go to CSA...WTF

Guys race organizers are only in it for the money, they would not be ther otherwise, check the expense list they publish telling you how your money is spent and does not cover all their costs, what they don't show is the income generated from the event.

Four years ago one of the fun rides had a net profit around 4.6 million rands and the club whom it is supposed to be organized around recieved ???????.

Next you will receive the argument that it's a business and making profit is aim of any business.

Have you ever cycled through JHB on a Sunday? It is dead quiet. I still say they need to organise a crit race in JHB on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. Great spectator points and it will be super fast as it is flat.

No.

Dead quiet because nobody dares going there.

Once us cyclists with our expensive kit, watches, glasses , bicycles go there. You're gonna see the wrong spectators pitching for a every weekend shopping spree, and 1000s of kids running after you "chocolate chocolate chocolate chocolate ... sweets sweets sweets" Do I look like a freakin Nestle shop?.

If you're not fast, you're food... :D

Perhaps move the end back to Kyalami and have the riders do a lap to finish, it will make it more challenging and add great spectator value.

I don't think our country has quite reached the point where you'll be mugged while 94.7ing through central Joburg.

Anyway, all the really dodgy stuff happens outside of the city centre. I'd be more worried about riding past Diepsloot or the sqa... informal settlement by Lanseria.

Ya - I'm bored with the 94.7 race.......I've decided this is no longer a priority race, it's over-rated, expensive, too many cyclists and serves me no good purpose. That's just me. I'll rather do the Race for Victory every year as I've always done.

110% agreed :)

HEAR, HEAR,

Once Waterfall estate is complete they will be forced to do this.. or come up with a radical change to the route.
