it looks like I have to go the normal person way and get an indoor trainer. So those of you already training indoors, which trainer are you using and which do you recommend. And I'm not looking at those computer integrated things of R10,000 etc.

Get a Cat Eye Cyclosimulator:    It does not link to a computer but you still have the abillity to simulate different gradients for hill training and it will show this in %

It's the most boring thing I have ever come across--------an indoor trainer. I cannot get my head around this thing...U just sit there pedalling/watching telly/sweating like a pig & & & Ok so I include variety on the trainer...I have it so I use it. I went for the TACX make....very good minus a power meter of course..got it brand new for R500..at my LBS.

I also never thought I would see myself using one but apart from the cold it is very difficult to find the correct routes to do proper interval training of a specific type.

I have a Tacx T1680 on back order from cwc. And got it for R 1000 cheaper than my local shop around the corner. Looks like a nice trainer, tells your watts ect....

I'm with DT and IanJ, I HATE my indoor trainer! I haven't used it once this wnter, opting to brave the cold whenever possible.

But you're all right, I should be fitting in an hour or so twice a week (sigh)

thanks michelleH, you've just made me feel less guilty! last time i was on mine was the tuesday after the sagd tour... since then it's just sat in the lounge glaring at me for ignoring it! smileys/smiley2.gif

Nothing beats interval training on the trainer,,,,,,, Its flippen hard and you can realy concentrate on your HR and pedaling tech. no need to worry about cars and drivers that gets your HR racing

Put on AC/DC realy loud and just BLI.......EM it on that machinesmileys/smiley32.gifsmileys/smiley32.gifsmileys/smiley32.gifsmileys/smiley32.gif

I initially got a 2nd hand indoor trainer and have honestly hardly touched it. Got bored within 5 minutes even with the music pumping. Then decided to get some rollers 'cos I really wanted to improve my bike handling etc and love them! Use them at least 2-3 times a week along with spinning at the gym.

I think a lot of the scare stories you hear with rollers are unfounded - I did an hour session on day one and have not yet fallen off. Time passes much more quickly (probably due to increased concentration required) and it actually feels like you're riding your bike.

Granted they don't come with fancy power gadgets etc . . .

Anders is Virgin Active nie 'n slegte keuse nie. Daar is bietjie eye candy meeste van die tydvanwa_mordo38898.2210532407

Well i use holdfasts rollers and they work great for cardiovascular fitness, aswell as leg speed, the time flys by.intensity wise you can still train at 90% of vo2 max. and if u realy want to incease intensity you can put a 2nd elastic ban on.theygo for R850 at karsten cycles.smileys/smiley2.gif

I'm with Pshyco on the Cateye Cyclosimulator.  We have three at work.  Excellent for interval training (sprints and hills).  I'm actually looking for one for home use.
