ek't 913m klim gekry, that's quite a bit cuz "hilly races like" Three Passes, Cobra and RollerCoaster are all just over 1100m except for 3passes with 990m of climbing, hectic!Dead

I really enjoyed the route, was a bit tentative on the strength of the bunch around me and was disappointed that 4 riders rode away from the whole bunch in the wind.

I've never claimed to be a climber but I think if you're feeling strong then a good ride would have been satisfying.

I enjoyed the gravel section but I don't think Vissers is the best route for short/long distance combined with traffic going both ways, road is too narrow and there is no shoulder.

I didn't think this ride was particularly tough - maybe because the break went away so early, and no one was really interested in closing it down. We had a rider in the break, and it suited us to let him suffer up front...

Things got a little more exciting when some three A and B riders rode across to the SV bunch, and started to up the pace a bit, but nothing that we couldn't handle.

Things finally started to liven up as we went passed the silos, and started the rolling hills, although no one was really willing to work that hard. Marius and I had a nice long chat as we road on the front of the bunch, and I must have eaten my body weight in miggies along that section.

Then the gravel came. I hadn't really been looking forward to the gravel all week. How wrong I was - I LOVED the gravel. There were some great lines, and I knew I get get a bit of a head start up the hills. Contermanskloof was pleasant, no one was really prepared to go hard with Vissers just around the corner.

I was a little surprised to see Marius at the bottom of Vissers, and so I decided to sit on his wheel. As soon as the road started to go up, Paul from BikeMax left us all for dead and danced up the road. One by one the riders went off the front, and when it came to Marius's turn, all I got from my encouragement was "My legs are cramping".

I climbed the rest of Vissers on my own, and going over the top, I could see 3 SVs about 200m ahead. It took me all of 3 kms to catch them, and with just under 2 kms to go I tried a sneaky move past them. They were ready for it and had me covered, and two other SVs got clear just before the circle and were able to stay away to the finish.

The last 25kms turned out to be nice and tough, but the rest of the ride was a little pedestrian. Lets hope the racing picks up a bit in the SV bunch.

Looking forward to the next gravel section :)

Velouria, I'm not complaining, got dropped during every flat race last year, so don't mind if the pace is a bit more pedestrian one bit!! It's just hard enough to still make it challenging for me.

But yesss, the SV's bunch was small, counted just over 31 riders finishing, if Orca and Stringbean finished we would have ween 33 SV, not a lot of ppl to be working in the group.

The Elite bunch on the other hand had quite a few more rides, I count 46 and lets say 2 also did not finish, so it's about 48, that's a fair amount more pulling power, so it's fairly safe to say that we nto going to finish as close to them as we did last season.

Oo, about the break away, I thought it weird that BikeMax or Aurora did nto try and close down the break since they had the biggest number of riders in our bunch, still, I'm not complaining, anyhting harder and I would have dropped off. Love the New Bike Kits!!!Clap

well not really....the break also went early....so the amount of people pulling was minimal..... A LOT OF GUYS DROPPED EARLY!!!Cry

I think Trauma Carriers had a rider in the break, but I was surprised that BikeMax didn't get some of the other riders motivated to close it down on that windy section...
