wait till the law abiding cyclists get into their cars. i have witnessed them driving on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic and then moving further to the right onto the hard shoulder to get into Killarney racetrack on a Tuesday. it's like "@&$$ the law, i'm going to be late for the PPA training session, i'll drive where i like." they make taxi drivers look like angels.

You come to Cape Town and you tell me where to ride... WTF man ..this is my city and I will ride the F*ck where I want to and if you dont like then get the F*ck out..angry.gifangry.gifangry.gifangry.gif

Hold onto your helmets this debate has been catapulted into the intellectual stratosphere.

how many cyclist gets knocked over, maimed , killed by innocently following the letter of the law..what I'm saying I can use my own discretion, based on the current circumstances to make a decision and act accordindly, the LAW is but a guideline as far as I am concerned..

Nobody else follows the law...why are cyclists always singled out?

I find it quite disturbing when someone hoots at me from 500m behind only to overtake on a blind rise doing way over the speed limit... How am I at fault?

A woman in came speeding from noordhoek farm village, I was on the yellow line a few guys behind me. she hooted for what seemed forever, then overtook clearly speeding on a crisp morning, windscreen wipers flapping madly trying to get rid of the frost and mist on her windshield into the rising sun, while doing her makeup!! Again exactly what did I do wrong here?

So when you tell me that choosing to ride the safest route home is the wrong thing to do - then yes I will defend my decision. I'm not rude, I don't force people off the pavement - no-one really walks there anyhow, and I don't inconvenience anyone but myself having to get on and off the pavement.

I'm not trying to condone lawlessness, but really there are far greater issues in this country ( for starters the billion rand education fund our president started, only to have spent 40million per learner to utilize it) you may as well have handed them 10 mil each to retire after failing matric.

We do the same thing in doping scandals - do you really thing EPO is only good for cycling? And testosterone and lord knows what else...

Every sport is doing it but for Some reason Cycling is the Ugly Duckling.

Why didnt you just say that in the first place instead of launching a vitriolic attack on someone you don't even know?

I agree with you up to a point - cyclists are vulnerable but having drive the Muizenberg /Kalk Bay route a few days ago, I can honestly say that to cycle it against the traffic flow is both idiotic and unlawful, in my humble opinion, that is

I don't think it features on the intellectual scale. Adjectives I'd choose would be 'bumpy', 'slow' and 'flatter than boyes drive'.

As a local resident who receives all the neighborhood watch emails I can promise you there is zero concern about this in the area. Hot topics are home invasions, burglary, theft from motor vehicles, perlemoen poaching and the tikheads at St James who habitually harrass women on the beach.

Can I also say, to the OP, if you visited cape town and your main observation was people cycling the wrong way down a street, you should probably just stop travelling altogether and stay in holeville or wherever it is you live.
