Why didnt you just say that in the first place instead of launching a vitriolic attack on someone you don't even know?

I agree with you up to a point - cyclists are vulnerable but having drive the Muizenberg /Kalk Bay route a few days ago, I can honestly say that to cycle it against the traffic flow is both idiotic and unlawful, in my humble opinion, that is

I don't think it features on the intellectual scale. Adjectives I'd choose would be 'bumpy', 'slow' and 'flatter than boyes drive'.

As a local resident who receives all the neighborhood watch emails I can promise you there is zero concern about this in the area. Hot topics are home invasions, burglary, theft from motor vehicles, perlemoen poaching and the tikheads at St James who habitually harrass women on the beach.

Can I also say, to the OP, if you visited cape town and your main observation was people cycling the wrong way down a street, you should probably just stop travelling altogether and stay in holeville or wherever it is you live.

Clearly certain cyclists seem to think that its ok to cycle down a one way, go through red robots and just have a general disregard for the law.

I cant believe some can say "we should try and obey the rules"

I don't think any of the cycling clubs or PPA would approve of this

Anyway enough said cause i cant convince those doing it that it irresponsible.

Safe cycling

Well that's just it - some find it safer to go the wrong way along main road than risk their lives riding boyes drive. I lived in the area for 8 years and know that the road surface is crap driving in a car let alone on a bicycle.

I live in Caape Town and can't defend 'em. I just hope everybody learns some mutual tolerance.

A harrowing experience down in the South of the Peninsula. Hectic story.

Truly terrifying.

A brief summary:

They drank coffee.

The fuzz said don't ride down the one way.

They said ok.

Firm handshakes all round.

These boys in blue look like the local municipality fund raisers who gave me a fine for walking my dog on a lead on the catwalk outside of the regulated hours - this while guys are selling Tik in the beach huts. Keep up the good work guys!

Off to change my underpants now.
