Here's the deal:

I've paid for the 2008 - 94.7 photos in full.

ActionPhoto sent me photos of a chick an a mountain bike. (not me)

I phoned them and guided a guy to the correct photos, which he promised to send

but I have not received anything.

Saw the rant on the Hub and emailed Johanna.

Hub Post

I received the following email 3 months ago from Johanna:

"Thank you for contacted me.

I am overseas in the UK at the moment but will have a look at the matter and see what we can do."

Well Johanna - I've sent you an email in which I suggested that you send me the 2010 event's photos free of change. (I think that is fair)

Please respond with your view on this. Do you agree with my grievance? Do you feel my proposal is unfair? I would like to understand what went wrong with my order. (Is this is once-off mistake or are you just not capable of covering big events?)

I will not accept poor service any longer!

really bad service hey, cause likewise i payed for photos from 3 months ago and yet to receive anything? Judging from the above i can forget about ever getting them.. Really sh*t service when the photos arent cheap as it is

two parts to my post:

1) Sometime ago I ordered some photo's after the third attempt I finally received them.

2) Why cant they just e-mail high res shots? Surely that will be cheaper, faster and more reliable than mailing cd's

highly agree  why should you have to constantly fight and follow up to get pics you have payed for long ago!!

This year I didn't even request the images. There is not one year since 2003 I can say I am satisfied with the images taken.

In 2007 I requested photos after the race because I noticed that there ware more photographers taking photos of me, so I though I would get more photos. Paid, and never received them.

So last year I though, seeing that its my first MTB 94.7 race, I am going to signup for the photos during the entry process, Then some time after the race I received the photos. Out of the 10 photos received two are not at the finishing area, ONLY two while I was actually riding the route.

This year I might as well take a camera with and take a couple of photos after the race.

But the most disappointing year was 2007 when I didn't even receive them at all.

I agree with you its disgracefull, and I would demand my money back, poor service has become standard today and, like you, I refuse to accept it.

However, be ready for the "Happy Police" to get on here just now and castigate you for your negative post, and "heaven forbid" daring to have an issue and expose it.

You really should just be happy that Action Photo was there at the race, you got a picture anyway, so dont complain, and if you dont like it, dont enter the race.

Actually if "SKYW" on his post "Ineffeciencies in the Cycling Industry" reads this perhaps he can get prepared as well!.

You can have the high resolution images emailed to you, I did that with the Dome2Dome pics.

Its probably a good idea to inform the race organisers about these issues with the photo's as they're the ones that elect Action Photo as the official photographers, but I do agree with you guys, its unacceptable to have to settle for this service, their photo's aren't exactly cheap, the least they could do is offer superior service.

I ordered photos from the Karoo 2 Coast. It was the first time that I thought the photographs were 'good enough' to buy. The photographers managed to catch a sense of action. All of the others from other races looked like they were just snaps...

On the delivery issue, I had them emailed to me. The file size was around 2.3mb each and it came through minutes after placing the order. I agree though that they are pricey...

Has anyone called them today to complain, give me phone nos & details and Ill call - I dont dont take no crap when it comes to customer service - Especially anything Ive paid for and never recieved.

I've received the following communication from Johanna this morning:

"I email you back and did then not receive any further communication from you.

I am happy to arrange the photographs from this year for, but must point out to you

that this was not Action Photo’s incompetence but that you were not on the list of pre-paids received from the race organiser."

It is clear that ActionPhoto does not take responsibility for anything:

1- We have an Enterprise Email Archiving Solution at work. I did a search - No further emails were received from Johanna.

2- She claimed that I was not on the list of pre-paids received by the organiser... If this is true - Why did I receive the incorrect photos initially.

3- In a follow-up mail from her, she stated that the correct photos were sent to me but was not delivered because my PO Box was incorrect ... Again - how did they manage to send the incorrect photos initially?

I've raised the questions above to Johanna but I am still waiting for a response.

I do not appreciate it when a person does not accept responsibility for their actions.

Had she said: "Sorry - we've screwed up but we will sort it out" I would have applauded her and probably supported them. In this instance however it is clear that there is a problem in their organisation and they need to change before I will support them again.

I think it is ok to call someone a nana when their business model sucks.

In fact, I don't think any of these event photographers have ever got it right when it came to the digital era. I have given up trying to get photos out of oakpics, which is a pity since they are all so damn brilliant.

back to actionphoto:

they are nana's

The whole send you printed photos pay to keep them scheme always smacked of a kick in the teeth - paying R50 per photo subsidising all the unused ones is just silly. Sure I bought one or two over the years, but am totally against them after they threatened to blacklist me from the Argus because I never sent them back. How could i prove that i sent them since it was a self addressed envelope. Their attitude sucked then and it seems to have stayed the same(who is the customer here?)

Somehow they are still in business, maybe because we don't complain enough. (that's assuming they're the guys who have always done the argus..if the contract has changed then i apologise)

I thought of buying some photos at the Knysna Half this year. I ran it in jeans, bafana top and a makarapa. Their brilliant photogs got 1 pic during the run, and 5 in the finish area. Maybe they should change their name to finishphoto.

As for payment R53 for a digital download or R69 for a standard print. no thanks, I'll just printscreen and copy it into Paint thanks. You might say that is immoral, I think charging those prices is immoral.
