v brakes are great in the dry. but they are not for people who buckle their rims often. I carry a spoke tool with me when i ride my jump bike (has v's)

the best brake which ive had.. magura hs 33's. that was a good few years ago...

now theres nothing that touches disc's for ease of use and RELIABILTY ;-)

Happy riding peeps! its summer! :-)

I have to say I am glad I won't have to hear my rims being ground away by mud when every you brake after going through a muddy river crossing.

Great alternative to Disc brakes is the ones my sister put on, the Magura Hydraulic V-Brakes. Awesome stopping power and her brake pads lasted 3 yrs.... Still don't beat the disc brakes though

No because the rim bends on the spokes but the disc is attached to the hub. Only if you actually bend the rotor badly may you have a problem, although most rotor's you can bend enough with your hands to solve the problem (just let it cool down first after the downhill).....

I have two bikes one with v's the other with Disc's both have the same tire set up but diffsou wheels. Xt wheels on the V's and dt rim's with bontrages hubs no the Disc's

V's are great he you have good grip for long down hill's and you offen keep your wheels true. My Disc's are awesome . But find the set up with bleeding to be far more complicated. Funny thing is i actually like the

not that easy - i tried it last year when it bent one on ride2rhodes. several of the freedom challengers tried too, in the end i just gave up and rode with the squeak :(

DR, when you doing the FC ?

and are you *ever8 gonna ride a D&D again, DR?

ok, whilst we're on the subject...why do so many people ride with their discs singing along? it's so damn easy to realign the calipers.

sometimes the disks just sing, no matter how well they are aligned? my hayes used to, no matter what i did - i kind of liked it, no warning needed when i was on singletrack, just slightly touched the brakes and it squealed and dogs/kids/moms/other riders would know i'm there :)

I used to have V and disk, in dry conditions i could hardly tell the difference performance wise, It was only in mud and wet conditions that i found disks better.

Cant recall the last time i saw a top end MTB with V brakes for sale in the shops.

Yip the bike makers are making sure we ALL move over to V-Brakes. Any decent Frame or Fork these days does not have V-brake bosses. 2 yrs ago I broke my Merida Team Issue frame which when I bought it, ONLY came with V-Brakes. The new frame is NOT a team issue but a Merida FLX1000 which the importer had specially done with v-brake bosses and lucky for me imported a few of them.
