Just a quick question.

I'm riding my first Mtb event this weekend,it's a 67km Mtb event and was just wondering what time can you expect to ride if I normally do my road races like the 94.7 and Amashova with an average of 32km/h?

I know there's allot of factors that come in to play but just want a rough estimate.

Thanks

realy hard to tell, the biggest factor is the route. I am a roady and for me Babas lodge 35km MTB is the same as 50km road. Then again 45km Van Gaalens MTB compared to a 120km plus road event.

Can't even start to compare!

They say it is 2:1 so a 65km will be like 130 on the road but all depends on the route. If it is like Baba's you will do 65 in 2 hours. If is is like the Megalies Monster get yourself ready to spend all day in the saddle!!

Depends of the profile: the hills are mostly hard work and energy sapping. A 65k with a lot of bumpy climbs (say 1500m in total) is a lot of hard work that makes a 100k road ride like the Argus a walk in the park. And if the profile has a lot of little bumps making up the big ones you going to have even more fun. Problem is with such rides the downhills are over so fast, and it feels like you spending all the time heaving up hills (at least that the case with me)

Well the one thing I can warn you about is that after this race you would probably have to sell your road bike, since you will only be dong mtb from now!

Good luck and enjoy!!

what is the total ascent ? and the terrain.

ie. lourensford or karoo to coast type riding (western cape)

I have no idea, can't find the rout details anywhere, probably a new unknown event

then it is very difficult to say. but for good measure you can work on your % difference in avg. speen from the top guys in a road event you did (vetA rather than pro) and then compare

As everyone says - too many variables

For the 94.7, the winning 50km MTB was 1:40, and the 97.8km Road was 2:15

So, for that race, the 2:1 rule almost works (but the 94.7 50km MTB was not the 'hardest' MTB race there is!).
