Would you consider hiring out the gun?

I'd have no problems with that, anyone wanna use the gun, just let me know.

The gun is actually the cheap bit of the process.

If you have a compressor that can continuosly deliver 6-8bar, that would be best.

I used a scuba tank(s) with an adapted regulator to supply the air. I used 6 cylinders worth of air to blast my stem and the tube intersections on the frame, and used about 10KG of the sodium bicarbonate.

My main costs were about R15 per KG for the blast medium, R400 for the gun and adapters, R180 for cylinder air fills.

My next project is my old steel Peugeot racer frame which I wanna use something a bit more abrasive on, like aluminium oxide or sand.

I'll post some pics of the kit I used for this project in the next day or so.

Hey DiverNick, nice sprayjob, well done on the clear coat. My brother used to spray bike frames for beer money when he was younger, I know what a mission it can be to get the clear coat right, no orange peel or runs!

Just an observation, as you're going SS on this frame, you should have cut off the cable bosses. I did it on my Giant frame, I also went the disk route, so cut off the bosses for the V-brakes too. Frame looks super clean now! Tyronne could do some gold vinyl for you too, could be cool.

I was reluctant to cut stuff off the frame as i would like the option to put the gears back on if I need to.

I also have heard of too many people struggling with their disk brakes lately (and they aren't in the budget right now) that I'd prefer to stay with v-brakes. My brakes with new Avid levers are super-strong, so I have no problem with stopping power using v-brakes.

Well done dude. Amazing how it came out, particularly the contrast between black and gold.

My sole criticism, purely my opinion, would be to either change the stem - or spray it black. Figure it would suit the cockpit better!

But that's just me - reckon you could offer your services to fellow hubbers!

Good job mate. Maybe you want to heat the frame a bit with your hair dryer: makes the clear coat harder.

I agree with RodTi, black stem would have looked better IMHO

You're probably right - saving for my new wheels, will get a new stem at the same time. And new pedals too.
