SwissVan Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 It was an exact mini me of the regular one with the GP crest and all. Mini one Hmmm... Sorry no mini numberplates permitted. They have to be the standard size so that the spietd kops can read it when they check the camera films.

Correct, if it doesn't comply to regulations the number plate shop can not put the SANS1116 emblem on. If the SANS emblem is not on then it is not legal
JamesW007 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Does this mean that any bike sold to any member of the SA Republic should comply. I would certainly be put off in my LBS if every bike sported spoke relectors. I hate them! They're my acid test to identify a Macro/Game/PnP bike at speed.
The Drongo Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 First they must catch you. They they can try and give you demerit points, due to no reflectors? Difficult to catch you if they can't see you hey??
Seeker911 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I read previously in the taxi vs cyclist death comparison that most road fatalities occur between 6pm and 9pm. So if you cycle after dark and you got no lights and no reflectors you are a nana. Even if you do have lights and reflectors stay off the road anyway between these times no point trying to provoke the law of averages.
CatGirl Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Do you have the link to the act? Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996.pdf
Clinton - theCOW Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Lots of legislation, who backs it up?Couple w/ends ago, on a 3 lane main road, the right hand 2 lanes being turning only, car goes straight from the very most right hand lane, over painted yellow islands etc, followed from the middle lane by the Metro cop bakkie. Both transgressed the law, yet the Metro didn't even stop the 1st vehicle? Reflectors on my MTB...nope, road bike....a def Aibo! Lights (front & back)....yes, i believe they work better and are more visible than hoping light hits the reflector at the correct angle to wake the sleeping motorist. Ride safe peeps
