No man I can't take it now - first barely a proper cyclist, then a pansie, then no Santa Claus, now a hero - even my multiple personalities are confused now!!!  racman2007-10-17 10:23:54

what time do you guys ride in the mornings now. FanD how safe is the R44 to Stell & back in the mornings at about 05h30 and do I have to get headlights or just taillight flashes?

Hmm... mornings to stell might be dodgy. Depends on your skill level at dodging cars. The traffic isnt too bad then though so you should be ok.

Personally I dont do mornings. I normally go cycling around 3pm

FanD - see that's my problem. Need to leave home at 07h00 and only get back between 17h30 & 18h00. Have done Stell & back a few times in the morning but only Dec on when it is light at 05h30 or so. What 55km loop do you do with Lord Charles Hill (presuming that is up by the BP) ?racman2007-10-17 11:02:18

I live in somerset ridge, so on monday I went out to gordonsbay then up pompstasie, back to lord charles up the hill turned off on to the bridge, up steynrust the left down past the church and bp garage back to lord charles then did the hill all over again.

Yesterday I rode to La Romantica in stellenbosch then turn around and went to bikini beach (where i stopped and "rested" while admiring the view) then back home. Both routes are around 55km.

Panzie! Just ride in the wind. As long as you're doing youre HR or Power intervals' date=' who cares how fast you're going. And besides.... you get used to riding in the wind and then laugh when everyone else bitches about it[/quote']

WHat I was actually hoping for (although I did expect a fair amount of abuse as well - yeh baby yeh !!Big%20smile) were some tips on specific routes when the wind blows from specific wind directions from the experienced (cycling that is) CapeTonians.

Oh well, I guess the best advise I can get is ride into the wind for the first 40-50% and then back with the wind on an out and back route!

If you are in the Southern Suburbs. Ride in Constantia and Bishopscourt, never much wind even in the gale force SE. lots of hills, wide roads, few cars, nice houses to look at.

Best option get off road, I did this yesterday, decided to ride as much single track in Tokai, up down sideways great training and good for the skills. I had an awesome ride, way better than slogging into the wind on the road. (which I will do this evening - Constantia here I come)
