Mark I run a magishine 808 on my helmet and then a 816 on my bars.

Great set up gives you more than you need for both technical and general riding.

Bought then from EdgeDesign on the hub and was about +/- R2200 for both lights extra helmet mount and extension cable and postage.

If you are not riding technical stuff at night a 816 by itself is all you need but I find the 2 complement each other.

I use an exposure MaxD 980 lumens in one package, no cables or seperate battery pack. It's now about R 3000.00 Cars flash me to dim if I am on the road. The new Exposure six pack gives 1800 lumens and will set you back about R4500.00 at 500grams it may be a bit heavy but is a serious light. Both give 3 hours on Bright, 10 hours on medium and 24 hours on low power

I use 2 Magicshine 808's, one on the bars and one on the helmet that I paid around R1300 for at the time, I bought a long life battery from Brighter lights to give me almost 7 hours run time. If you have the cash and want the best, check out brighterlights.com. Support a fellow Hubber.

+10 Ditto, also 816 on bars and 808 on head

I enjoyed the side fill a lot more with the 816 since u seldomly ride extremely fast at night. The headlight does the trick when u hit seriously technical sections, i only switch it on then. If i had to pick 1, i'd choose the 816 on bars.

Price, roughly the same, did my own thing to get em tho ;)

I use L&M seca 700 on the road. Plenty of light, even at higher speeds. At the back I use their vis 180 light. Very bright. These lights are pretty expensive, but after sales service from Maillot Jaune (importers) is good

Magic Shine MJ870 (1200 lumen), retails for R1300. Four light settings, and four battery level indicator colours at the back. Can switch between bright and dim with a dual switch, no need to put the light off like a MJ808. I use mine mostly on the dimmest setting, otherwise motorists flash their headlights at me, or I blind other trail users. Standard battey gives me about 5-6 hours, and the endurance battery 6-8 hours.

I can't compare to any of the Magicshine range as I haven't tried those, but I bought one for the Ride Mag 24hr in April and used it quite often subsequently for night racing. I felt the performance was good, especially at the price. The light was bright enough to handle the single track sections with quite a good beam pattern.

I've used both the helmet and bar mount and both held up well, with no vibration problems.
