I have now replaced crankset, cassette and chain and would like to finish it off by replacing the jockey wheels, what would be the best option?

The Shimano ones are expensive so I was thinking of some BBB ones from CWC. Anayone with another option maybe or comments on the BBB ones?

There were some close ups of the probikes before last year's TdF and there were some BBB's fitted to some bikes there. SO I guess they must be good. But why are you replacing them? They really have to be smooth before they need replacing.

The teeth on the lower one seem a little worn, the BBB ones are R100 so I thought I might as well, go for broke!

Do the teeth not need to be a minimum height or anything, would it affect shifting?

Make sure the tooth count matches.

Use the B tension to set the gap between the cassette and upper derailleur wheel.

My opinion- original is best especially with derailleur wheels as Shimano have a ceramic bearing in the upper wheel for a reason. The ceramic bearing allows play, without this play your chain will ghost shift as the terrain been ridden changes.

I replaced both jockey wheels on my XTR some time early last year - might even have been the end of 2009, with the BBB's... No problems whatsoever.

I recall paying more than R100 for the two though - and for some or other reason, although I'm really stretching my memory here - but rembember being told that the BBB's are essentially the same, and I *think* this was due to one of them also(??) having a ceramic bearing [TBC]...

Regardless - been happy as Larry with mine.

Must be honest though - if price was similar, would look at the KCNC one's - purely for the bling...

There are some for R90 and others for R195 (these have the ceramic bushing). The KCNC ones are R190 but I recall reading somewhere that the colour comes off on the teeth?

Aah - ja - just did a search - the R195 must be the BBB Rolerboys, which I think is the one with the ceramic bearings. I have these - and they run sweet.

Not sure about the paint issue on the KCNC - but that would put me off a bit...

My upper wheel on one of my old XT RD's, ended up looking like a cowboy's stirrup. Most bizarre thing - how I never noticed it, is beyond me - possibly due to me hardly never taking the chain off...

The KCNC ones does loose it's colour after a while due to friction from the chain but the silver ones stays silver. There is also no play in them so you don't get that "floating" one on top.

umm... can one use the KCNC ones on a SRAM X9? I ask cos the upper jockey wheel on the X9 doesn't bolt through the centre

Yes and no ....

No you can't for exactly the reason you give but ..... I have filed off that extra 'knoppie' on my old X9 RD and used the 'normal' BBB ones no problem ;)

I find the KCNC a bit noisy (road and MTB) but they do look the dogs 'whatsits' and work a treat

I was wondering if they would would make a noise, the freewheel already drives me mad!
