Hi There guys, I need some help or advice about these mentioned Disc brakes. I want to upgrade my Hayes Stroker ryde brakes.

I am looking at shimano SLX, also Avid Elixer R and Elixer 5, and Magura Julie. Maybe also Deore M595..heard the juicy 3's are crap.

I do normal cross country riding. I am looking to spend around R1500.

What are the most common problems with these brakes and which are the easiest to maintain and adjust. I dont want to take the bike in to the lbs for minor things like adjusting the brakes..My current Hayes strokers drive me crazy because i dont know hoe to adjust them and i do one ride in the mud and they start rubbing..

thanks!

Hi Niel,

Groete,

You cant go wrong with any of the shimano`s

Deore, SLX or XT great value and no issues.

I personally dont like Avid - too many problems on the Juicy Carbons

Best brakes in my opinion Hope / Formula / XT

In your price bracket go for SLX or Deore

Thanks guys! The CR's are out of my budget unfortunately..maybe next time! Any other opinions on the Juicy 3's?? And the difference between elixir 5 an R? I guess major diff is tool free reach adjustment..

I got XT's on one bike and SLX on the other No problems with either great brakes.

To be honest I cant feel any diff between them if you on a budget you cant beat SLX.
