Oh sorry ran out of maple syrup there :P

Anyway, George could have won it on a tricycle for all I care, the fact is that it shows that he is in good shape and there exists the possibility that we can finally have a saffa team win the Epic !!!

Yebo Yes. Now you are speaking some sense.

Kev and David to take it for sure. Just wish we get more people to support the saffas.

Ok and to bring in another argument in here, how did the okes fair with normal tyres on the 29'ers ?

Atta is tough and most would look at you funny if you were not running UST- sidewall cuts etc says conventional wisdom.

Now the 29'ers were mostly on non-UST racekings and I havent heard of issues (yet) so what will happen come Epic time ? Will UST be available ?

As I'm worried there will be another "lets use latex tubes cause their lighter" episode....

First 3 places at the Attakwas.

David George

Stephan Sahm

Karl Platt

a Sign of the times?

or just a stirr for those 26" believers?

and don't come with the "because they are sponsored" story - they had the choice.

Im not pro 26 or 29. But what everybody fails to mention is these guys would still have kicked everyone elses but on 21" wheels. Im sure it was just more comfy on the 29's

I tried a 29er fisher for a weekend and hated it, I don't 29ers are for everyone, some will like them and some won't, I personally love the way they look but I can't ride them

Horses for courses:

Rocky terrain, rough gravel - 29

Sandy-ish, gravel-ish terrain - 26

Attakwas clearly demands the bigger roll-over of the 29".

I find the 29'er better in thick sand than a 26 "

In the words of Lance Armstrong "It's not about the bike". Well done guys for winning such a tough race though. In the end it's about your physical and mental strength and I'm sure there are guys who's butts were whipped (whether on a 29-er or 26-er) by guys on less expensive bikes, just because they are willing to push harder.

my 2c worth.

Very true. Trek has won 17 of the last 11 Tours de France, and their bikes are k*k.

I went pass a lot of 29ers on my Zula, no need for me to get a 29er. Whats was Dangle's time in the end. He is Xtream!!

Hi Koukie I ended up on 6:50.

29er just more fun to ride... i can ride technical sections now on my 29er that i couldnt ride on my 26!!!!

Very well said, I think many can benefit from this.

Had it not been for my 29'er wheel size I would have had to walk that very rocky downhill on a rigid fork.

Interesting, Dangle.

[please note these comments are coming from a roadie who socialises on his MTB. ]

Why would a 26" bike be better here?

I intended to write that the 29er, I guess, is more suitable to bigger obstacles than the 26er with its greater diameter/ radius / wheel size.

Nevva ridden a 29er.
