More Morons?

And I thought morons are the cyclists which ignore traffic lights and do behave differently as they would sitting in a car (at least I hope so).

I am seeing to many ridding (not horsesSmile) idiots ignoring the traffic rules and then are surprised that motorists get upset and maybe even hurt themselves or better kill themselves.

Rent-Smart, as a well known TV presenter and pro-cyclist once said, "it's not much of a training ride if you have to stop at every traffic light"

Just try and say something to those morons and youwill get your head blown off.

I was standing at the traffic light in my car the other day & a couple MTN club 100 guys went through the red light.

The were elite riders as they had their numbers on their bikes.

Rent-Smart, to confess, I don't stop at the traffic lights either.  But OK, my ride is at 04:15 every morning and I finish by the latest 6.

I have skipped some traffic lights during weekend rides, but I was given an informal "talking to" (a.k.a. uitkak) so that's been stopped.  So nou's ek SOET!

I don't mind losing my head by unwarranted verbal abuse too much, but I do mind losing it physically by getting hit by a car or bus due to my own fault.

I am sure you will change your attitude the day you get hit and it was your own fault. Otherwise you just spoil it for the rest of us.

Go and look for a ride free of robots like we do and if there are any, just stick to the rules. You have to slow down at least anyway and that spoils your training in any case, not so?

Why don't you skip red lights with your car when you are in a hurry or otherwise?

Also guilty (very seldom) of sneaking thro a red robot! BUT, I have also noticed, often, that the biggest culprits are the hot riders! Another thing they LOVE doing is riding 2 or more abreast yacking up a storm. Now THAT p..ses the motorists off BIG TIME! Then, along come cyclists like me, who is SO terrified of the cars and trucks, that if I got ANY closer to the gutters I'd be  part of the sewerage system!... and the motorists take their frustrations out on us!! How often have you read or heard about hotties being taken out by the cars? It's invariably the "ordinary" people like us who get nailed Dead!

Ride safe!

I don't think it's restricted to a particular group of road users, fact is if you drive like a twat, then you'll motorcycle, run, walk, skate, cycle or moonwalk like a twat on the road.

Driving to work I had an idiot in his silver peugot with a red Schwinn on the bike rack force his way in front of me, on the highway during peak traffic.

I had to hit brakes to avoid rear ending him and nearly had the guy behind me drive into me.

I flashed him and he then braked hard, now imagine how he rides his bicycle.

Admitedly I shouldn't have flashed the said muppet, but I reckon the situation illustrated what aggro idiot road users we are in general.

I must admit that sometimes when there are no cars, I will skip a robot, but only when i have looked ten times left and ten times right. But the other morning while riding on the tandem with my fiance we were almost done with our ride and we were in the finishing "sprint" and the robot turned red. There was no way that we could have stopped and we went over the red robot. Lucky for us, the car waiting to go over saw us, and did not ride.  I did thank him for his kindness.

True, very true.  I are idiot road user.  And worst of all, I like it.  As I said to dieretuin koekie a while ago, I was a very agressive driver.   Now I'm just "VERY".  But in all honesty, I still get pissed off and in your shoes DD, I would probably have confronted the guy.

As for guys skipping traffic lights (and being dangerous at the same time), I'll very quickly open a window and ask them to think.  Have had a confrontation once, until I got out of the car and the oke saw the 'dale on the back seat.  Quick change of tune.

Ai Ai Ai! What to say.

Must admit to being one of those very early morning robot skippers and have been known (Yip ask Widget!) to skip a robot later as well. Trying to be more obeying though!

Not sure how this thread ended up in the classified section but its quite interesting anyway..........!Big%20smile

I think road rage is becoming more and more prevalent on SA roads Danger Dassie, maybe its got to do with the pace of life today, power outages which cause untold delays, heavily congested roads which honestly are becoming more and more difficult to navigate safely or just a plain lack of general manners, but whatever its a big issue and you never know how the other person will react.

As a point in question on friday evening I was driving out of the local mall parking lot and a young lady in front of me was waitng at the stop street, it was dusk (but not dark)and she didnt have her lights on when three young guys roared into the parking lot, they were travelling so fast they could not navigate the corner and just missed front ending said lady, well the language I heard these guys shouting at her would have made a sailor blush, then they stopped in the middle of the parking lot road and all jumped out and ran to her car, shouting, swearing and generally threatening her, fortunately she had the presence of mind to just ride off.

I got out of my car and asked them what gives, but the cowards that they are they ignored me and drove off.

But Yah, road rage - real bad at the moment.!
